One worship service at 10 am
It has become a nice tradition to join back together as a church family every fall and celebrate a church homecoming as we get ready to kick off a new year of Sunday school and return to our regular worship schedule.  This year, we also celebrate Grandparents Day!

Please join us for one worship service at 10 am in the Sanctuary, for Pastor Clark's message, Agreement. We will also celebrate the baptism of Elizabeth Frances Mathewson, daughter of Phillip and Jennifer. Five Ways to Remember Your Baptism

Sunday's Scriptures: Exodus 12:1-14 and Matthew 18:15-20

Church Family Photo

We will gather in the Sanctuary after worship for our second annual Church Family Photo, and we want to be sure that YOU are a part of it!  After the picture, we'll adjourn to Brecksville Square for food and fun!  The Fellowship Committee is providing sloppy joes, lemonade, plates and the like.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share!
Picnic on the Square
While we're enjoying food and fellowship on the Square, we'll also enjoy live music, courtesy of the City Lite Band a local trio (Felicia Rosati, Alan Douglass, and Steve Gordon) playing jazz, R&B, classic rock, country, pop, and more!
Ride the Euclid Beach Rocket Car!
It will be here from 11:30 am until 1 pm giving us free rides around Brecksville. Want to see the the Rocket Car in action? Watch this video!
Bounce in the Bounce House!
Jump around! A bounce house will be set up on the church's front lawn, where kids can bounce until their hearts content. (Please use caution when crossing Stadium Drive! The Rocket Car will be loading and unloading there.)
Hurricane Relief
Last Sunday, we collected $2,608 for UMCOR's Hurricane Relief Fund, and donations are still coming in!  If you would like to help, special envelopes will be available in the pews on Sunday for gifts of cash or check (BUMC designating the UMCOR in the memo line).  For electronic giving, visit  and select the fund for "UMCOR".  Remember, 100% of your donation will go to UMCOR's Hurricane Relief efforts!

Our focus for the Brookside Food Center collection this month is Peanut Butter and Jelly.  Let’s help hungry kids of Cleveland as the school year begins.  Want to help?  Bring donations to the first floor collection bin by September 14.
Asbury Bremeth Begins New Study September 14.
Bishop Reuben Job wrote that “the Christian life flourishes in community.” We know that this is true anytime we take part in a small group study. The ladies of the Asbury Bremeth Circle invite you to be a part of our community that meets on the second Thursday of each month for fellowship, laughter and faith building (the tasty treats are pretty good, too!) This year we will go back to our roots and learn from the study “The Wesleyan Way.” Join us.  You will be so glad you did! Our first meeting is on September 14 at 10 am.
All Youth Dinner, September 17 from 5—7 pm. We will gather together in the Fellowship Hall for fun, food, and fellowship! Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for a meal and then a large group game. There will NOT be high school youth group after All Youth Dinners. Hope to see you there! We're creating a photo gallery wall in the youth room of youth group pictures.  Do you have any?  Bring one along, and we'll hang it up!  Special thanks to the Rybak family for sponsoring this month’s dinner.  Hosts are still needed for several months this year.  Sign up today in the lobby.

The Education Hour Returns Sunday, September 17 at 10 o'clock!

At Brecksville United Methodist Church we are committed to our Sunday morning education hour and how it helps develop a community of believers.

  • Ancestors of the New Testament.  Join Pastor Clark in room 301 as we look at our spiritual ancestors. You will be amazed to learn that they are a lot like you! Hear the stories of these men and women called by God to do amazing things, and see how they fit into the larger narrative of our faith story.
  • Digging into our Methodist Roots. As we make our way forward as faithful followers of Jesus, we would do well to revisit our roots.  Join Jenny Gee in the Chapel to explore the founder of Methodism, John Wesley’s, three simple rules for living the Christian life and five means of grace.
For the young ones: Our children, from birth through eighth grade, learn alongside loving, faithful adult teachers.  Together, we all become familiar with the stories and teachings of the Bible.  These gifted and talented adults encourage learning in a creative, supportive and age-appropriate environment, nurturing children’s growth in faith.  During the 10 o’clock education hour, kids join with children of similar ages.
Our youth gather under the leadership and guidance of our awesome youth director, Dana Schwendeman, who helps the kids see the relevance of the stories in scripture within their own life.  Kids also will take a look at some of the tough situations they find themselves in and explore how a person of faith can respond.  In addition to Sunday mornings, High School Youth group meets Sunday evenings, and Middle School Youth group meets on Tuesday afternoons.
Young Adult Small Group.
Are you between the ages of 18 and 30? Look for the Young Adult Small Group, forming during the 10 o’clock education hour Sunday mornings beginning September 17.
Fall Retreat  - Register by September 18!
Interested in a quiet, remote, prayerful weekend with your maker?  Reserve your spot on our trip to the Abbey of Genesee!  Dates are Oct. 27 - 29. Get the details HERE.
Pastor’s Midweek Bible Study
Begins Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 pm in The Parlor
Join Pastor Clark and friends as we explore the Gospel of Luke.  Luke was an educated and cultured man, the first real historian to write about Jesus. He places Jesus at the heart of the first-century Jewish and Roman worlds into which the Christian gospel exploded. We know that what Jesus said, what he did and what happened to him has changed the course of history.   Cost of the book is $10.  But, if you can’t afford a book right now, our Corinthian Fund will cover the cost.  Sign up on Sunday or by replying to this e-mail!

Save the date!  Our Story, God’s Story.  September 24th at 7pm

What and where is God calling Brecksville United Methodist Church to do and be? How has God uniquely gifted and graced us to be in ministry with Brecksville and our surrounding community “for such a time as this?”

Mark your calendars and plan on joining us on Sunday evening, September 24 at 7 pm. Rev. Dr. Heather Lear from the UMC’s Discipleship Ministries in Nashville, TN, will lead us in a time of discovering how our stories as individuals and as church are poised to address our community’s current story. All are welcome!

In preparation for the 24th, please spend time in prayer and listening for where God may already be working in our midst. As you talk with friends, neighbors, and co-workers, what are some of the struggles facing those outside our walls? What might be the places where Brecksville can partner with God to address hurt and provide hope?
