Our trails are now enveloped with the resultant transaction of leaves doing what they are supposed to do at this time of the year. There are a few deciduous holdouts, however, perhaps posturing for some sort of arboreal status (“poplarity” contest?)… But their time will come soon, as we all know that leaves falling on groomed ski trails are strictly forbidden.
Speaking of skiing (of which we do year round), now is a great time to assess your equipment inventory: skis, boots, poles, waxes, clothing, etc. If there are plans for augmentation or replacement, opportunities for fulfillment of this initiative are currently optimal, as most suppliers have received their winter stock and will have the best selection of sizes, styles, and variety. If you are in need of a dispersal plan for equipment that no longer suits your needs, please note that the annual Edmonton Nordic Ski Club Ski Swap will be held on Nov. 3 at the Tiger Goldstick Park pavilion.
While are trails are not yet ski ready (unlike last season!), there are still opportunities to enjoy, including the annual Turkey Trot fun run in support of the Food Bank will take place on Sunday, October 27 – see below for more details.
