Where are the Farm-Grown Greens?
A few years ago we tried an experiment. Everyone loves our farm-grown greens like spinach, baby lettuce and arugula, so we decided to try to grow them on a year-round basis. They sure did taste good, and we loved having them on our tables as much as you all do.  So in the growing sense, the experiment was a success.  But in the financial sense (it cost HOW MUCH to heat the greenhouses all winter?) this experiment is simply not sustainable.  So we aren't growing greens over the coldest winter months this year. Don't panic though...
We have produce vendors all throughout New England sending us the freshest and best tasting greens available. Farmer Andrew surmises that they will begin seeding in April to get the first harvest in May.

Grow Your Own Sprouts!
So with no farm-grown greens, the next best thing is growing your own sprouts!  Liz has brought in a great selection of sprouting seeds from
Botanical Interests
Their website has a wealth of information on how to sprout seeds at home, using the seed sprouter or using a mason jar. This is a great project in practicing to grow your own food, and it's fascinating for kids to watch the germination and growing process.

Planting Lilies
Pete and his crew are planning for spring by planting lots and lots of flowers!  We just can't wait for the lilies to bloom...you can look for them in early May.

We don't want to be presumptuous, but do you love Bartlett's Farm?  If you do, please vote for us in Cape Cod Life's 'BEST OF CAPE AND ISLANDS' contest.
Results will be printed in the June 2015 edition.
