SevenDays® Make a Ripple, Change the World
April 9-15

For those who wanted more information on the upcoming events Rev. Denise Dugan referred to in her sermon Sunday: SevenDays® Make a Ripple, Change the World is gearing up for another week of interfaith activities April 9-April 15, 2019, as we remember the three lives lost in the April 13, 2014 tragedy at the Jewish Community Campus and Village Shalom in Overland Park, Kansas - William Corporon, Reat Underwood, and Terri Lamanno. SevenDays® is a challenge for young and old, to embrace diversity across race, religion and culture. Join us in our mission to promote interfaith dialogue by engaging all people to discover commonalities and overcome evil with acts of kindness. Fifth Sunday in Lent

Scripture: John12:1-8

All four gospels recount the anointing of Jesus, but there are interesting differences and similarities. In Matthew, Mark and John the anointing takes place in Bethany. In Matthew and Mark, it takes place at the home of Simon the Leper; in John it takes place at the home of Mary and Martha and their brother Lazarus. In all three of these gospels, the anointing is associated with Jesus’ imminent death. Luke’s account takes place much earlier in Jesus’ ministry and occurs at the home of an unnamed Pharisee. In Mark and Matthew’s account, the woman anoints Jesus’ head; in John and Luke, she anoints his feet. Only John gives the woman a name, though Luke describes her as a “sinful woman.”

But in all the gospels, Jesus regards the woman’s act as one of faithful love, despite—or perhaps because—of its extravagance. This Sunday we’ll be unpacking the implications of Mary’s act of extravagant love.

Pastor's Class is our baptism and confirmation class designed for 5th through 8th graders. We explore what it means to be a Christian, to belong to God, and to be a member of the Christian community. If your child has not been baptized, or was baptized as an infant, this class, in which they are paired with a mentor from our congregation, will give them the opportunity to consider their beliefs, doubts, questions, and passions. Baptisms and confirmations will take place on Sunday, June 2. Classes start April 24, but we need early registrations so we can begin our planning and recruitment of mentors. Please contact Rev. Denise Dugan if you have questions or to register for the class.

VBS will be June 10-14, 2019. We’re super excited about our theme – To Mars and Beyond! Online registration HERE.

Caring for People of South Africa: Lessons of a Purpose Driven Life
with Pascale Henn
As a part of her own commitment to work that supports a purpose-driven life, Pascale Henn often travels for business in furtherance of her commitment to entrepreneurship that has a positive socio-economic impact on local communities and the world. Once such trip was to South Africa and Zambia, where she and her son worked with business clients, developed strong personal and community ties, and initiated numerous political relationships. This trip offered surprising, and sobering, insights into the state of African business practices and opportunities, the daily challenges of average local African citizens, interesting cultural differences and similarities, and numerous ways to assist. She is anxious to share her experiences of this strikingly beautiful, culturally and politically complex, sometimes tragic but amazingly hopeful place.

Pascale Henn is an experienced business lawyer who founded her firm to help clients grow their businesses from a sound legal and business perspective. Her firm, Business Law Advisors, is committed to strategy, simplified solutions and collaboration with other professionals as ways of approaching business challenges and growth opportunities. Pascale has assembled a team of experienced attorneys, all with both outside firm and in-house experience in a variety industries.
