A New Year of Ministry
Happy New Year! As we celebrated the turning of the year, did you find yourself looking back on the milestones and memorable moments of 2017? Have you looked forward to the new year with hope and new plans?

With our Annual Congregational Meeting just ahead (dates below), many of our ministry leaders are looking back on the past year of ministry, and envisioning what may be in 2018. We'll be sharing their annual reports in this e-letter soon.

What about you? Looking back, what is a moment in the past year at Advent that stands out to you? What are your goals to grow in faith, community, and service this year, and how might we support you? What do you envision for Advent's ministry? Share your answer here with our pastors and staff. We appreciate hearing your perspective!

Three Kings Celebration this Sunday
The festivity of the season is not quite over yet! Don't miss this special Epiphany season celebration this Sunday.

Come join us for worship this Sunday, and for our Three Kings Celebration at 12pm this Sunday, January 7. This is an awesome opportunity for our English-worshiping members and Spanish-worshiping members to celebrate part of the Christmas story together, so come take part!

The Three Kings Celebration is a tradition in many Latino cultures, and Three Kings Day is a festival Sunday for all Lutherans. Here at Advent, our Three Kings Celebration includes a big potluck lunch for all, a piñata filled with candy for the kids, a special cake, the singing of traditional songs, and a visit from the three kings (yes, we've got the costumes). It's going to be a lot of fun! Join us!
Council Nominations
Could you or someone you know serve on our Congregational Council this year?

Do you feel called to share your vision, ideas, and love for this congregation? We'd love to support and engage you as a leader in this community. At our Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, January 28 we will be electing several new members to our Congregation Council.

To learn more, speak to a member of the Nominating Committee: Tanya Kent, who can be reached at tanya.e.george@gmail.com, Adolfo Ramirez, Rose Tresgallo, Carlos Lopez or Damaris Maclean.
Troubling the Waters: Moving from Privilege to Partnership
Beginning January 23rd, Advent will launch a 6-month study for white Christians, exploring the role that white privilege and internalized white superiority has in shaping attitudes, belief systems, cultures and those of the church and society at large. This resource has been designed to equip people with tools that will aid them in addressing and breaking the cycle of socialization that perpetuates racism and sustains an exclusive church. If you are interested in participating, please speak with Pastor Danielle, who can be reached at pastordanielle@adventnyc.org
