Celebration Sunday: Light the Fire
On Sunday, September 17, during and after each worship service, join us for a special Sunday of stories, worship, and intergenerational activities.

Our Celebration Sunday, now less than two weeks away, will feature special moments in worship followed by intergenerational, community-building activities downstairs. It's all about exploring as a community how each of us can be a light of love to the world. We'll do this through the lenses of six Bible stories at six activity stations in the fellowship hall after 9am and 11am worship.

This Celebration Sunday will serve as our Sunday School kickoff, so families, be sure to mark this date on your calendar! But also, each activity is 100% intergenerational, so everyone is invited to come down to the fellowship hall after worship to explore our theme in community.

You are invited to participate, just as you are called to be a light of love to others. Come join us.
Our New Office Administrator
This week we welcome Carla, our new office administrator! Carla is passionate about serving and helping others, and brings a wealth of skills to the table, including translation. We are very excited to have her on board! Please join us in extending a warm welcome, and abundant grace to Carla as she begins learning the ropes of this essential role on our staff.
Dorothy Metzger
Dorothy Metzger, a longtime member and beloved leader of Advent, passed away from a heart attack on Sunday, September 3rd. She will be missed by many, but her life is certainly one to celebrate. As Kathy Carpenter put it, "She was feisty, full of life and of strong opinions, Lutheran to the core but open and tolerant to those of all faiths or none! An amazing presence."

We are incredibly grateful for the faithful dedication Dorothy shared with our congregation over many decades. We will share news about Dorothy's memorial as soon as these plans take shape.
Last Sunday's Sermon
Have you ever wished life was as prescriptive as school? If the life Jesus calls us to constantly reroutes our expectations, how do we keep at it and keep faith? In last Sunday's sermon, Pastor Becca speaks to these questions, and offers a spirited, more radical perspective on the oft-dreary mantra, "bear your cross."

As ELCA Lutherans, we stand with our partner, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), in support of young immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. Our faith guides us into a call of compassion and empathy, especially for those children and youth who are most vulnerable.

Read the statement from the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), lamenting the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. Or, learn more about what this means, and how you can take action in this letter from Javier S. Cuebas, Director for Advocacy at LIRS.
Luther is Making an Appearance on PBS
PBS will air “Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World” next week on Sept. 12! One of many special things happening in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Check your local listings to find out when it is showing in your area.
