Now that the winter has finally left us, it’s the perfect time to look around Upper Merion to nominate attractive front and back yards for the 2018 Beautification Awards! Nominate your own yard or your neighbor's yard! 

 

Montgomery County Trail Challenge

May 5 - December 2, 2018

It's time to hit the trails and participate in the 2018 Montco Trail Challenge! There are more than 92 miles of trails to explore and enjoy in Montgomery County – how many can you visit by December 2? Participants can win fun prizes, including collapsible water bottles and dog bandanas. Get started now!

 

Schuylkill River Canal System Presentation

From the 1820s through the 1860s, canals along the Schuylkill River were a primary way to move everything, from coal to farm goods, to markets in Philadelphia and beyond. Come to learn the local history of the Schuylkill River canal system and its importance to the growth of our township from history enthusiast, Marianne Hooper Furman. King of Prussia 10-Miler

Sunday, May 20 | 8:00AM

Heuser Park

Run this scenic 10-mile loop throughout King of Prussia, beginning and ending at Heuser Park. In addition to the 10-miler, there will be a 5k and kids fun run. The race will benefit several groups, including Let Me Run (17 students and a coach from Candlebrook Elementary School), Ainsley’s Angels, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. Save money by registering before May 11.

 

Swedesburg VFC Fundraiser: UnTapped Artist

Upper Merion Township Library Receives Donation from King of Prussia Rotary

We'd like to thank the King of Prussia Rotary Club for a donation of $2,700 to purchase a new AWE Early Learning Station for the Upper Merion Township Library's Children’s Department.

 

The AWE Early Learning Stations are designed with touch technology, color coded keyboards, small mice (for small hands) and over 4,000 developmentally appropriate learning activities for ages 2-8 in both English and Spanish. They are extremely popular tools for teaching children about technology and digital literacy. Thank you for your generous donation!

We're hosting the final Winter Market this Saturday, May 5. Then two weeks later, we kick off the regular season, back for our ninth year!

 

If you haven't joined us before in the off-season, here's how it works:

 

We have a smaller group of vendors, all of whom have a way of pre-ordering. Every other Saturday from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, they set up on the lower level of the parking lot behind the Township Building. You can pick up your orders, and most vendors bring a little extra to tempt you. The regular season kicks off May 19.

Yard Waste Collection

Now through October 26

Upper Merion Township conducts a Yard Waste Collection each year. The collection season will run Friday, April 20 to Friday, October 26, 2018. Pickup days will vary each week depending on workload and weather. We will make every effort to collect yard waste the same week the request is submitted. To submit a request, fill out a request for service online or call the Public Works Department at 610-265-8465 before 12:00PM on the Tuesday of the week you wish to have your yard waste picked up. Please follow the collection guidelines.

Electronics Recycling and Shredding Event

Do you need to dispose of personal documents or old electronics? Bring them to our electronics recycling and shredding event. Accepted items, disposal fees, and more details can be found online.

Montgomery County Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale

Saturday, June 2 | 9:00AM to 12:00PM (Pre-order by May 19)

Norristown Farm Park

Purchase discounted backyard compost bins and rain barrels from Montgomery County. The Earth Machine Compost Bin is on sale for $50 and the Systern Rain Barrel is on sale for $65. Additional items, such as aerators and kitchen scrap buckets, may also be purchased online. Pre-order online by May 19 to pick up on June 2.

The Upper Merion Township Parks and Recreation Department won the Community Outreach award presented by The King of Prussia District (KOP-BID)


This recognition was awarded to the Upper Merion Township Parks and Recreation Department for its support of KOP-BID’s KOP Beerfest Royale and Rock Your Lunch events, and Upper Merion Township Community Center Complex Advisory Committee for helping to guide design, construction and programming for one of Upper Merion Township's greatest amenities. Volunteer on a Citizen Board

There are 25 commissions, boards, and authorities currently serving Upper Merion Township. They are staffed by appointed citizens who assist in township government by advising, informing, and assisting the Board of Supervisors. These citizen volunteers provide a valuable service to the township.

 

  • We're looking for citizens to join the newly-formed Farmers Market Advisory Board to initiate, provide, and recommend plans for the operation and management of the Upper Merion Farmers Market. Learn more about the application process.
  • The Board of Supervisors currently has one vacancy, to be filled at the May 17 Board of Supervisors Business Meeting. Interested applicants may submit a cover letter and resume to the attention of Township Manager David G. Kraynik.

Roadway Restrictions

Schuylkill Expressway Safety and Traffic Improvements

This project is the first phase of a long-range, comprehensive, multi-modal transportation plan designed to enhance travel along Interstate 76. PennDOT will install Variable Speed Limit and Queue Warning systems along Interstate 76 from U.S. 1 to just west of U.S. 202 in Philadelphia, Lower Merion and Upper Merion townships and West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in the summer of 2019. Learn more.

 

First Avenue Safety Improvements

The First Avenue Road Diet is a safety improvement project for motorists and pedestrians. The project will reduce the 4-lane road to 3 lanes that includes a lane of traffic in each direction, a dedicated center turn lane, and bicycle lanes or a wider shoulder. The project is expected to begin in late April. Learn more.

 

US 422 E. Ramp to Route 23 Temporarily Closed

The ramp from EB US 422 to Route 23 (Valley Forge Rd) is scheduled to be closed through late summer for construction on a new fly-over ramp. Learn more.
