Donna Thompson is an important asset in the day-to-day operations of Davie County Schools’ Transportation Department.  She is very dependable and is always on-time.  She is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, such as importing bus driver’s time worked, inputting daily work orders into BSIP (the transportation management software), scheduling district-wide staff vehicles and activity buses, answering phones, paying invoices, payroll, and a whole host of additional tasks to assist the Transportation Director. Donna has also recently taken on the new federally mandated DOT medical cards for school bus drivers. Even though her work load has increased over the past few years, Donna has found ways to improve efficiency and continue to provide exceptional customer service.

Donna is not only well respected in her department, but also across the district. Donna may be seen volunteering to keep the gate for high school sporting events or volunteering for community events. Davie County Schools is truly blessed to have a hard working and dedicated employee like Donna Thompson. As we all know, it takes people like Donna, who are willing to go the extra mile to keep things running smoothly here at Davie County Schools.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s statewide summer reading initiative, NC Reads, is underway and has four goals:

  • ensure that preschool and elementary students have books to read at home;
  • engage schools and community service organizations in collecting books or funding for books to donate to elementary and preschool children; and
  • provide an online resource to easily connect volunteers and donors to local literacy programs.
  • promote regular attendance at school.

Cooleemee, Mocksville, Shady Grove and William R. Davie elementary schools are participating this year. Donations from the community are greatly appreciated and will be accepted through Friday, June 1, at the participating schools and the Administrative Offices at 220 Cherry Street in Mocksville.
