PRC celebrates its 15th year of organizing household chemical and hard-to-recycle collection events in western Pennsylvania.

Since launching the programs in 2003, PRC and its partners have
collected:

4.5  MILLION LBS. of chemicals from 45,000+ households

2 MILLION LBS. of e-waste and 10,000 tires from 23,500 participants

PRC Events Provide Safe and Convenient Material Disposal
PRC will again provide residents of western PA with numerous options to conveniently and cost-effectively dispose of a wide variety of materials in the months ahead. 
 
HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL COLLECTIONS
Six events scheduled May - October
Launch Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at North Park Swimming Pool parking lot, Allegheny County.

Individuals can drop off automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, paints and other household chemicals for a cost of $3/gallon (a few exceptions apply), cash only.
 
HARD-TO-RECYCLE COLLECTIONS
Five events scheduled May - October
Launch Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Frazer Township, Allegheny County.

Individuals can drop off "e-waste" such as computer towers and peripheral equipment, cell phones, printer/toner cartridges, CFLs and expanded polystyrene packaging material at no cost.

For a fee, individuals can drop off televisions and computer monitors, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, printers, small Freon appliances and tires. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Backyard Composting Workshops Take Place in May
 
 
 
Not sure what to do with kitchen, garden and yard scraps? Would you like natural, homemade compost for your lawns and gardens?

Learn how to expand your recycling efforts by registering for a Backyard Composting Workshop and turn your yard waste and food scraps into a valuable resource for your garden.

PRC offers Backyard Composting Workshops on May 6, 9, 10, 16, 18, 20 and 24.

 
 
 
 
Vote for Poster Contest “People's Choice” Award
 
 
 
PRC’s 7th annual “Let’s Clear the Air Poster Challenge” attracted entries from 2,100+  students attending schools in a 10-county region. The artwork currently is on display at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

Congratulations to Maggie Dobich (grade school winner), Riley Orr (middle school winner) and Baylee Smith (high school winner).

“ReuseFest” a Tremendous Success
 
 
 
PRC’s celebration of Earth Day included hosting its sixth annual "ReuseFest" to collect material for reuse by 10 local nonprofits.

This year’s event was the most successful ever, attracting 300+ donors who dropped off a wide variety of items – including the kitchen sink! Special activities in celebration of Earth Day included a pop-up shop, food trucks and raffle to win a backyard rain barrel.

All materials donated will be reused in some fashion, whether resold, repurposed or given to those in need in our region and around the world.

 
 
 
 
 
Newtown Square Farmers’ Market Opens May 24

PRC will launch into spring with the opening of its Farmers' Market at Mostardi's Nursery on Wednesday, May 24.

Stop by every Wednesday between 2 - 6 p.m. to enjoy Mediterranean, German and Middle Eastern food as well as fresh produce, local meats and much more. The farmers' market, launching its sixth season, offers everything from organically grown produce and meat to baked goods and handmade gifts. Make the farmers' market a part of your weekly routine for purchasing fresh, pesticide-free foods.

RECYCLE AT THE FARMERS' MARKET — PRC offers specialty recycling services all season at the market in Chester County. Drop off cell phones, ink jet cartridges, GPS units, MP3 players, digital/video cameras, tablets, video games and consoles for recycling, and ensure these valuable materials are kept out of landfills!
