Continuing in the Wilderness
If we were taking a literal journey into the wilderness this Lent, now might be the point when we are far enough in to take a look around and see nothing but wilderness around us. How would that feel? Thrilling? Scary? Peaceful? Isolating?

I wonder how Jesus might have felt at this point in his wilderness retreat, after 14 days in the desert with no food. We have several more weeks in the wilderness before Palm Sunday, with many opportunities to deepen the experience throughout.

In Sunday Worship, we'll continue to explore Jesus' 40 day fast in the wilderness. The theme this Sunday is trusting God while in the wilderness, and our focus verse is Matthew 4:5-7.

In our Carbon Fast and Daily Devotion, we are "fasting" from plastic this week. Next week, we will focus on traveling and commuting more sustainably. Catch up on past devotions here, and sign up to get our daily emails anytime here.

In our Sunday Conversations (10:10am downstairs), we're continuing our series on Lenten devotional practices rooted in wilderness Scripture. This Sunday, we will learn about embodied prayer. (Which sounds crazier than it is. Really, it's just different ways you can express or act what you are praying (like folding your hands, except with more options).

And come join our midweek Lent Bible Study! We will continue our exploration of the Israelites 40 years in the wilderness at 6pm Mondays in Spanish, and 7pm Wednesdays in English. Come join us.
Wilderness Run/Walk this Sunday
10am-10:40am this Sunday. Join us after 9am worship or before 11am worship.

Join us in running, jogging, or strolling through Riverside Park in between 9am and 11am worship this Sunday. All speeds and physical abilities are welcome and invited!

We'll gather just outside Advent on Broadway after 9am worship, where we'll explain the route and distribute maps so different groups can go at their desired pace. We'll return to Advent at 10:40am for fellowship and coffee, and to freshen up for anyone attending 11am worship.

Come get in touch with the wilderness in the city, before or after journeying into the wilderness in Sunday's worship and Gospel reading.
Food Pantry this Saturday
Saturday, March 3 | Volunteers at 9am, Distribution at 10:30am

This Saturday, come help us assemble and distribute 150+ bags of groceries to individuals and families in the community. In addition to providing support to those who need it, we strive to create a warm, community-like atmosphere here. Many of our guests have also become volunteers. We are always looking for new volunteers of all ages. Come join us!

Join the Advent Chorale for Easter
Interested in singing with our Advent Chorale? Want to join in time for Easter morning? You can!

Come to rehearsal on Thursday, March 22, at 7:30pm and then on Easter morning at 10:10am. The Chorale will be doing a simpler anthem by Handel that will be lively and fun to sing (with organ and trumpet), so it's a comfortable and fun way to start if you are interested in joining.
Advocacy Action this Sunday
This Sunday, our Advocacy Council invites you to fill out postcards to congressional representatives asking them to act now on gun control. Come to the back table in the sanctuary after any worship service to sign your name or add a personal message to a postcard.
Dedicating Easter Lilies
An Easter Lily is a wonderful way to celebrate God's creation while honoring or remembering loved ones or an occasion. Lilies are $20 each. They are potted plants, so each has several flowers. If you would like to give an Easter Lily in honor/memory of a person or occasion, you can do so on our website.
Lutheran Magazine
Did you know we have a magazine? And, it's actually really good.

Lutheran Magazine is an awesome monthly resource with devotions, news, stories, and more from pastors and ministries throughout the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and partners around the world. Through our congregational subscription, you're able to get Lutheran Magazine sent right to your home each month for free as a member of our congregation. If you aren't currently getting it and would like to, let us know.
Special Music
Two visiting university choirs are coming soon.

The Vanderbilt University Chorale will perform a concert here at Advent at 7pm on Tuesday, March 6. And the University of Kentucky Men's Choir will share a musical offering at 11am worship on Sunday, March 18.
