PYO Tomatoes a Huge Success!
Pick Your Own Tomatoes was an absolute blast!  Tons of fun was had...a million laughs and smiles (behind the masks), and lots of perfectly sun ripened tomatoes were picked. Mark your calendars for September 19th.  If Mother Nature can keep the rain away, we hope to have another really fun PYO day!
Tomato Inspiration
So you picked (or grew) more tomatoes than you know what to do with...
Well, we have an idea or two! Read on for some great products and ideas to make the most of your tomato haul.
Like salt needs pepper, and bread needs butter, homemade tomato sauce needs great pasta for dinner magic to happen!
Rustichella d'Abruzzo has been crafting the finest artisan pastas since the early 1900's. Their Fusilli col Buco is one of their most popular shapes.

Tagliatelle Bolognese is a classic! Try this recipe here from the venerable authority on all things Italian, Eataly

Curly shapes like Gigli (pictured, right) and Campanelle are perfect for chunky sauce recipes, as they hold the sauce and it's yummy ingredients in their chewy golden folds
The royal treatment for your tomatoes means only the best oils and vinegars from Italy...
Frantoia Extra-Virgin Olive Oil is the perfect blend of three varieties of Sicilian Olives: delicate Biancolilla, tasty Nocellara and robust Cerasuola. This phenomenal oil has a delicate, fruity flavor that is reminiscent of fresh olives and finishes with a pleasant aftertaste of sweet almonds.

The PGI Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Giovanna Pavarotti is produced without added caramel, revealing it's natural syrupy texture and authentic deep brown color. Intensely flavored from traditional Italian grapes with bright acidity that's as balanced as it is savory! A simple drizzle over marinated tomatoes is all you need.
NO Stir, FIVE Ingredient Risotto!

Add one finely diced white onion and two tablespoons butter in a dutch oven and toss in a cup or so of halved cherry tomatoes. Sweat until very fragrant and soft. Add two cups Arborio or Carnaroli rice and five cups chicken broth all at once. Let simmer about 20 minutes, stirring just once or twice. When the broth is almost all absorbed, add in the last half cup of broth and a half a cup of freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano and stir until the rice is super creamy and al denteTop with extra parm, cracked black pepper and you're done!
Three Wines to Pair with Tomatoes
Italian Sangiovese- what grows together, goes together

Castello La Leccia "Vivaio del Cavaliere- Named after the spring-fed fish pond (‘vivaio’) that once graced the vineyard, this wine is a special labor of love for winery owner, Francesco Daddi. Blended with Merlot and Petit Verdot, these grapes add softness and spice to the Sangiovese-based cuvée. So drinkable, with plum and cherry fruit, gentle tannins and a long finish.

Pair- Roasted Tomatoes with Chicken or Mushrooms. Lasagna, Lamb, or Puttanesca!
Nebbiolo for when tomatoes share the stage.
Deforville Barbaresco-  With alluring aromas and flavors of truffle, earth, berries, rose, tar and leather, these wines pair wonderfully with dishes where tomatoes are a complement to the recipe, not the whole show.

Pair- Pizza Margherita, Bolognese, Tomato Risotto or Sausage and Peppers!
Barbera...for everything else!

Barbera is synonymous with "food-friendly" and what's more, it pairs best with everyday foods like chicken, pork and pastas. Their bright acidity, medium body and juicy characteristics pair with perfectly with virtually any tomato dish (or otherwise) that you can throw at it! We are wild for Crivelli's Barbera D'Asti for it's vibrancy, chemical-free farming and 'zingy' refreshing flavors. Give this one a few minutes upon opening for the wine's aromas to really bloom.
