Emergency Locate Requests Can Now Be Submitted Online

As more of Alabama 811’s request volume moves to the web, one of our most requested features has been the ability to enter emergency locate requests online. We have noted those requests and are excited to announce that our members facility companies will now be allowed to request emergency locates online through the web portal. Because of the sensitive nature of emergency requests this feature will initially be restricted to Alabama 811 members and approved users will be required to attend a short training session. These sessions are conducted by Alabama 811 staff at no cost and can be scheduled online through web conferencing or in person for large groups.

We have been contacting registered web portal users about the availability of this feature and the response has been extremely positive and our training schedule is filling up fast. If you are interested in entering emergencies online please contact Jennifer Lee to schedule a training session. Jennifer can be reached via email at or via phone at 205-731-3210.

Alabama 811 is a non-profit organization established under Alabama Act 94-487.  Anyone engaging in excavation activities is required to notify underground facility owners at least two (2) full working days before any digging activities occur.  Alabama 811 helps to streamline this process by providing a “one call” service allowing excavators to notify area utility companies quickly and efficiently. Alabama 811 is funded by our member utility companies and is a free service to the excavating community.
Alabama 811 is pleased to welcome Gavin Doss as IT / GIS Specialist
With ever increasing ticket volumes, the move to 24 hour operations, and a growing reliance on remote ticket entry the demands placed on the technology department at Alabama 811 have continued to grow.  In order to meet these increasing demands Alabama 811 is pleased to announce that Gavin Doss has joined the Alabama 811 team as IT / GIS Specialist.

With extensive experience in GIS and Information Technology Gavin was able to hit the ground running and has helped Alabama 811 to not only keep up with all of the new demands placed on the technology department but has also allowed us to pursue new technology projects which will improve the overall experience for excavators and members.
Gavin previously served as a Geospatial Analyst in the US Army and recently completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Park University.  In his free time he enjoys hiking with his wife and two children, running, and reading. Gavin says that the most exciting part of working at Alabama 811 so far has been to see different applications of GIS Technology.  However, learning to work with and implement a whole new set of technologies has also been his biggest challenge.  He also says that he looks forward to the fact that applying his skills will help increase safety throughout the state.
If you would like to send Gavin updated base map data (we are always looking for updates), member service area updates or just a kind word of welcome he can be reached at: or 205-731-3203.
