2018 Buffalo Triathlon
Postponement / Cancellation

Dear Buffalo Triathlete,

It is with our deepest regret that we must inform you that this years Buffalo Triathlon is being officially postponed due to historically low registration numbers and the increasing cost of running the event. Since 2014, the total number of participants at the Buffalo Triathlon has dropped between 20% and 30% each year.  Last year, the race was run at an overall loss, and 2018 is already more than 20% behind from last years registration numbers.

Nationally, triathlon participation has been on a steady decline for about the past 5 years, and MN alone has seen more than 30 races cancelled just in the past couple years.  Although a number of options are being explored, it is likely that the Buffalo Triathlon will be restructured as a non-profit in 2019 in hopes to cut costs and increase potential future sponsorships for this great local event.

With continued help from the local and triathlon community, we hope to see a strong and vibrant triathlon continue to be offered in the City of Buffalo for many years to come.  We want to thank our past volunteers, participants, the City of Buffalo, and the many other people that have helped make the Buffalo Triathlon possible for so many years.  For those of you that have registered for the 2018 race, you have 2 options.

Please email your chosen option to info@tribuff.com and just list your choice in the subject line. We will take it from there.

OPTION 1 (preferred)
Support the 2019 Buffalo Triathlon and automatically transfer your 2018 race registration to the 2019 race.

OPTION 2 (space is limited)
Transfer to a Graniteman Triathlon
Graniteman Clearwater, or Graniteman Big Lake.
See www.granitemantri.com for more dates and details on those races.
(Due to smaller venues, only 50 transfers will be allowed to each of these races.)

Again, Please email your chosen option to info@tribuff.com and just list your choice in the subject line. We will take it from there.
