Annual Congregational Meeting in Review
Thank you to everyone who was part of our Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday. This congregation is so lucky to have your commitment, perspective, and faith be part of these big decisions. If you weren't able to join us Sunday, here are some highlights.

  • We took some time to look back on 2017 through photos and celebrate all we've accomplished together
  • We voted to approve the proposed 2018 budget. You can learn more about the most significant points of this budget here.
  • We elected Blessing Tawengwa, Bayardo Peralta, Brelyn Vandenburg to a three-year term on our Congregation Council. You can learn more about them here.
  • We reconfirmed the call of our two deacons, Carlos Lopez and Adolfo Ramirez, for another year. You can learn more about on our staff page.

One of our members, José, made a great video of our annual meeting! Watch it here.

2017 in 13 Photos
Because getting it down to 12 was just too hard. Even 13 photos leave out so much of the ministry, work, laughter, fun, preaching, praying, and community that happens here in the space of a year. The contributions of and impact on all the people who have been part of Advent's community and ministry in 2017 are unfathomable. With that caveat, here are 13 great photos and great moments we captured from throughout 2017.
Take a Look
Ash Wednesday & Lent
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 14. On Ash Wednesday, we will have worship at 12pm in English, 6pm in Spanish, and 7:30pm in English.

Preparation for Lent: At worship this Sunday and in next week's e-letter, keep an eye and ear out for all the special things we are going to be doing this Lenten season.
Did you know ICE agents have tried questioning people leaving Spanish worship on Advent's front steps? Look for Pastor Gary's quote in this article by The Intercept, which begins with the recent arrest of New Sanctuary Movement leader (and Pastor Gary's colleague), Ravi Ragbir, and explores the wider issues of immigration activism, immigration enforcement, and the church.

Connecting the Dots: Talking About Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation
Saturday, February 10 | 9:45 am--11:30 am | LGBT Community Center (map)

We wanted to share this event hosted by our friends in ministry, Not So Churchy. Not So Churchy is a church putting the *TRANS* into transfiguration. They're hosting a workshop to help people increase their familiarity with and comfort in discussing the nuances of LGBTQ identities, with a particular emphasis on transgender and gender nonconforming identities.

If you wish there was a better way to talk about gender identity and sexual orientation that doesn’t segment people into categories but unites us all in a journey of discovery and expression, then this morning together is for you! Together we will inspire new ways of thinking and teaching others about gender and sexuality. Learn more, ask a question, or RSVP on their Facebook event.
