JBBA JOURNAL

September 2019

“Thank you” simply doesn’t seem to do enough justice for how appreciative and grateful we are to all of our sponsors and supporters. On behalf of JBBA, we would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to ALL our sponsors for making the 2019 JBBA National Show & Convention an amazing success!

We couldn’t do what we do and love without your generous support and help. We truly appreciate everyone’s generosity. This year’s Nationals was one for the books. Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters for making that possible. Thank you for believing in us and our youth program.

See you July 19-24, 2020 in Belton, TX.

Sincerely,

JBBA

Howdy this is Braylee Mackie, your JBBA President. Slide on your boots and hang on to your hats and get ready for this upcoming year! I am planning on increasing the JBBA activities and events hoping to get membership more active in JBBA and BBU; not just our National Show. If you happen to have ideas or suggestions please let me know as I am working on events, dates, and times. Our next meeting will be October 26th at 8 AM in San Antonio Texas at the Wydham- Riverwalk where the BBU convention will be held. I welcome all JBBA members to attend. This meeting is the perfect opportunity to get more involved and get an inside look at our breed association. I encourage all JBBA members to take advantage of events, programs and opportunities to become more involved not only in the JBBA but as well as the community in which they live. Look in your Beefmaster Cowman for upcoming sales and field days that you can attend. Saddle up and hold on tight and join us for a fun filled year!

A Special Message From Your Director of Youth Programs,
Yvonne (Bonnie) Ramirez

My last article started off with "Wow... Can you believe it? Our coveted National Show & Convention is only weeks away." And now here I am in September writing about our 2019 National Show being one for the books.

With approximately 215 exhibitors exhibiting almost 460 head of cattle at the 2019 JBBA National Show & Convention; this year’s show is in the books. Exhibitors hailed from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi. What a phenomenal show we had! We will certainly build on the success, experiences, ideas and momentum from this year’s show.

I’d like to express my sincere thanks to all sponsors, junior leaders, BBU staff, JBBA Adult committee, BBU members and other volunteers for all of their help, support and contributions. It takes a village to make a high caliber event of this magnitude happen and because of the like-minded team we have that believe in our youth program; it happened and was amazing at that!

I am extremely proud of our junior leaders. When they took on this leadership commitment, I told them that in their new leadership role they were held to a higher standard and I wanted them to understand that JBBA was their program to improve. I encouraged them to make positive contributions and changes, while being role models for their peers. Before Nationals I advised them that it was going to be long hours and hard work, but I reiterated that this was their time to make their mark, to shine, to go out with a bang! I am pleased to say they did just that! They set the bar high. Thank you and congratulations to Mr. Raleigh Scherer, outgoing JBBA President, for leading his team and for doing big and great things this year!

A new leadership team has been elected with Ms. Braylee Mackie leading the charge and Mr. Troy Glaser as her right-hand man and an energetic team supporting them. I look forward to what this new team accomplishes. We already have many ideas brewing. As the JBBA Director of Youth Programs, my hope and goal for our junior leaders is that their JBBA leadership year will afford them the opportunity to build memorable experiences, gain valuable life skills, and learn important life lessons that will help develop, prepare and grow them into our future leaders.”

I wish you MUCH ...  Much learning, growth, greatness, happiness, dreams and goals!

See you all in San Antonio for our first JBBA meeting of the year.

President- Elect Memo
(Troy Glaser)

As I continue on my year of service as the 2019-2020 JBBA President-Elect, I can't help but think about what the future holds for me and my fellow officers and directors. Many I have known for years and are great friends; they make stock shows and JBBA Nationals that much better and enjoyable. Others are new and ready to meet new people, make new friends, and change this organization in the right way. From attending and volunteering our time at livestock shows, to running board meetings, each and everyone one of us are highly dedicated in this organization and will strive to do whatever it takes to leave a positive mark on the JBBA. In terms of my new position, it is a big jump from the director position I held just a year earlier. With this comes much more responsibility, new tasks, and leadership youth members look up to. I will have to spend even more time helping in the JBBA, and learning during my year to ensure a successful year when I become president of this outstanding organization. There is nothing I would rather do. JBBA has helped make me the man that I am today. JBBA has taught me the qualities of hard work, and how vital the beef cattle industry is to the continued prosperity of our nation, and the livelihoods of my family. Including the many families who call the JBBA their home. In closing, I am much looking forward to this year as your JBBA President-Elect! I will do my best to serve you and do whatever to grow and impact this organization positively.

Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association (JBBA): JBBA's mission is to promote youth outreach through friendly competition, education and leadership skills while raising, showing and promoting quality Beefmaster cattle for the future of the industry.

JBBA was founded in 1984, as more and more young cattlemen became involved in the Beefmaster breed. Its membership has increased steadily, and the number of programs JBBA offers to its members has grown dramatically. JBBA is moving with the Beefmaster breed to the forefront of the beef cattle industry.
