         Care for and by children of God in Black skin has a long history in the Lutheran church, despite the impression one might have of the ELCA as currently a predominantly “white” denomination.

Marriage Preparedness Series 
Although Lutheran Congregational Services is no longer sponsoring the Marriage Prep Series, the instructor, Pastor Sandra Brown is still offering the classes. The class is a full day, designed to cover some of the basic topics of pre-marital counseling, such as communication, finances, and self-care.

The schedule for 2021 is as follows:

► April 10, Virtual

The following classes may be virtual, depending on Covid restrictions

► June 5, Grace, Royersford

► July 24, NEPA Synod office, Allentown

► September 11, Trinity, Lansdale

The Faith Formation Resource Ministry Team is working on two opportunities for education based on the evaluations received from Learning Ministries Day 2021:


  1. First will be "Faith Formation Saturdays" (FFS) via Zoom. These virtual sessions will be held from 9 – 11:00 a.m. on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The cost is $5 and the first one will be held Saturday, March 13th at 9 a.m. All are welcome to attend, but please register by Wednesday, March 10th. You will receive the Zoom login information two days prior to event.

    The first session is about “How Lutherans Read the Bible” presented by Deacon Joy Gerhart. Please see this flyer for more information about the topic and presenter. A sneak preview of the next topic will be given at this session.

  2. Second, as we continue to "weed & feed" the Resource Center located in the Lutheran Center (Synod office), resource lists related to the FFS topic will be curated. The curated lists will be shared along with future "Faith Formation Saturdays" information. The resources will be available for preview in the resource center to help leaders plan Faith Formation activities in their congregations.

► Martin Everhart (SALM, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Mission District), has been hospitalized for over two months and faces many health challenges. 

► Last week, we received word from our companion church in Argentina (IELU) that Pr. Fabian Kreischer died Sunday, February 7. Pastor Kreischer was very active as IELU's primary leader for our companion church relationship and communications. We pray for the people he served and all who love him in their time of grief.

► Karen Blitch, wife of David Blitch (Salem Belleman's, Mohrsville; upsygrad@msn.com), is receiving treatment for cancer and other multiple health issues.

► Dan Brettell (St. Paul III, Easton; pastordanbrettell@ptd.net) and his wife, Patti’s 7 month-old granddaughter, Sabella Brettell, is recovering at home after surgery; and the family is cautiously optimistic about her prognosis.

► Oliver Brown (St. James, Hobbie; bskindeer@aol.com ) is recovering from back surgery.

► Harry Goos (retired; rhgoos@comcast.net) is receiving physical rehabilitation after a fall.

► Robert Hughes (retired; hughesrobertg@gmail.com) is receiving chemotherapy while battling cancer.

► Gail Koerner, mother of pastoral candidate Elizabeth Koerner, is recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor.

 Tom Lang (St. Paul's, Fleetwood; pastor@spelcfleetwood.com), he suffered 2nd degree burns from a propane heater used to keep him warm for outside worship

► Diane Laine, wife of Larry Laine (Trinity, Bangor; laineparallel@gmail.com) is dealing several health related issues.

Debra North (Faith, Blakeslee; revdeb527@gmail.com), is in the recovering after surgery.

► Sandy Richards, wife of Tom Richards (retired; masterpastor@verizon.net), is dealing with a variety of health issues.

► Susan Ritter, wife of Dennis Ritter (retired; dsritter@ptd.net) is recovering at home after knee replacement surgery.

► Luther Routte (retired) is recuperating at home after treatment for blood clots.

► Nancy (“Gidget”) Schwartz (wife of Don Schwartz, St. Andrew, Summit Lawn; dj1743schwartz19@yahoo.com) is now home from the hospital and is receiving out-patient treatments for cancer.


Durrell Seip (retired; durrellseip87@gmail.com) and his wife, Lois. Both are dealing with ongoing health issues.


► William Zimmermann (retired; wzimmermann@comcast.net), received a cancer diagnosis and will be having surgery at an undetermined time.

St. Joseph’s Hill Lutheran Church, 244 Koch Road, Boyertown, PA 19512 is seeking a part-time sexton. The position is for 20-hours per week consisting of 5 days per week. Please note that the church provides an outreach ministry providing a day-care/ pre-school, thus the work hours are in the late afternoon/evening. Duties include cleaning the sanctuary, offices, bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, and other various cleaning functions. Experience preferred. Salary starts at $12.50 per hour. Candidates need to have a strong, well-developed faith in Christ along with exceptional interpersonal, teaching, and leadership skills. Ideal candidates will also bring a servant’s heart to those AELC is called to serve. The position requires more than three years of experience in a church setting. P/T Organist, Director of Vocal and Bell Choirs (10-1)

Allegheny, Mohnton seeks an Organist and Choir Director who will oversee the traditional music ministries of the church in cooperation with the pastor. The music leader will organize adult choir, bell choirs, and special music as needed and warranted to engage and inspire Christian faith beliefs through music. We are looking for someone to partner with us in this role. The Organist and Choir Director with also work with our Praise Team leader and other staff members to support the congregation. This is a part-time position (approximately 15-20 hours per week). Compensation will be based upon experience.
