Lauderdale County High School, Rogersville, Alabama

The Lauderdale County High School chemistry lab addition was installed in 2014 by Garner & Associates.  The small community school in northern Alabama is, "Committed to excellence through education."

The chemistry lab is equipped with Stevens Advantage 4400 A-tech series laboratory casework.  A-tech Surface is Stevens' engineered thermoset resin surfacing, embossed and thermofused in solid colors and woodgrain finishes simulating wood veneers.  A-tech Surface is specifically designed for a busy lab setting.  It creates a non-porous, moisture-resistant face homogenous to the core, not susceptible to separation or delamination. A-tech is chemical resistant and offers superior wear in an environment which is typically tough on surface materials.  A-tech Surface meets the requirements of SEFA 8 Cabinet Surface Finish Tests.

The project architect was Lambert Ezelll Durham Architecture out of Florence, Alabama.

Quality Assurance Manager Attends SEFA Conference

The 2017 annual Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) Conference was held in La Jolla, California.  Jeremy Hickenbottom, Stevens' Quality Assurance Manager, attended to learn the newest standards for scientific furnishings.  The conference recognizes the Lab of the Year, in 2017, The Francis Crick Institute in London.  In 2016 the honor went to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building at University of Illinois Champaign.

SEFA members sit on a number of committees dedicated to improvement in the industry.  Jeremy is on the SEFA 8 & 10 casework committee.  He reports they recently reviewed door cycles and load tests.  The groups updates fall in line with AWI requirements.  More than 13 worldwide companies are represented on the committee.  SEFA committees for Fixtures as well as Liquid Chemical Storage voted to update standards.

SEFA staff presented results from their recent World Market Survey regarding trends in scientific furnishings, and where the future of lab design is headed.  The event also provided a trade show and the opportunity to network with exhibitors and vendors from across the country.

She was able to bring her previous business experience to Stevens and applied to our situation it in a very short period of time. Her ability to get into the details and communicate with our customers has resulted in a monumental improvement in our processes. It is with great pleasure that we announce her promotion to Casework Business Manager.”

Jean rose to the new role with extensive experience in the commercial real estate field. She received an accounting degree from Millikin University.
