NEPA Synod Youth Ministry Network Gatherings
at The Lutheran Center

February 5 - 12:00 - 1:30 pm
March 9 - 10-11:30 am

Do you work with children, youth, and families in your ministry? Do you wish you had a place to gather with like-minded people to share joys, frustrations, and steal, er... borrow, fabulous ideas from others? Consider meeting with the NEPA Youth Ministry Network, sponsored by your Youth, Youth Adult, and Family Ministry Team. We hope to offer regular gatherings for volunteers and paid staff who work with youth. The goal is to strengthen, empower and support each other in service to Christ. If you are able to come (or if you cannot attend and are interested in gathering with us in the future) please RSVP to Deaconess Deborah Graf at dgraf@trinityreading.org. Upcoming Events

January 26, 2019. Learning Ministries Day. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven. The keynote speaker is Elsayed “Steve” Elmarzouky, spokesperson for the Reading Muslim Community. He speaks about his personal journey of faith as a practicing Muslim in Egypt and the U.S. and how his understanding of Islam reflects principles familiar to all people of faith. Workshops will be offered in the morning and afternoon. Participants can choose to learn about new resources, learn a skill, or choose a workshop for their own personal growth. March 16. Farm Family Appreciation Celebration. Doors open at 6:15 PM, but no earlier. Dinner buffet – 7:00 to 8:00 PM (Tables will be held for families that work late.) Square Dance, Classic and Modern Country Music by “The Majestics,” with line dance music between sets: 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Theme: Sports. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Devotions Available

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and leaders from The Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada have prepared a series of devotions for the annual ecumenical celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, observed this year from January 18 to 25. Each year churches from around the world mark a week to pray together for Christian unity. The theme for the Week of Prayer 2019 is based the 16th chapter of Deuteronomy, which states, “Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue.”

 Carl Adams (retired; cajoadams@verizon.net) is receiving rehabilitation after a stroke.

 Leilani, the five-month old daughter of Becky Blitch and Eliot Rodriquez, granddaughter of David (Salem Belleman’s, Mohrsville; revblitch@msn.com) and Karen Blitch has been re-diagnosed with rhabdoid tumor and continues with chemotherapy to shrink the tumor.

► Kelly Brooks (chaplain, Good Shepherd Rehab Network; kel4u@earthlink.net) is recovering at home following a heart attack.

 Dennis Carroll (retired; drdc820@yahoo.com) is in hospice care at home.


 Walton Horn (retired; w3okx.wrh@comcast.net) is recuperating after a serious illness.

 John Kuschel (St. Peter [10th], Allentown) is in rehab at the Lehigh Center, 1718 Spring Creek Rd, Macungie; and his wife, Lois, is in LVH-Cedar Crest.

 Phyllis Pellitier (Shepherd of the Hills, Dushore; pastorpa@ptd.net) continues to recover at home after surgery to repair the mitral valve of her heart.

Candidate should know choral techniques, have experience in church worship with both organ and piano, have a working familiarity with church music and liturgical practices related to Lutheran worship. Allegheny, Mohnton is searching for a dynamic, experienced, professional Director of Youth Ministry (approximately 15 hours per week). Used Classroom Chairs (1-10)

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus, has 96 classroom chairs available. The chairs are adult sized, green plastic, sled legs (slide on floor). We have lovingly used them so the green plastic is well worn and discolored – however all chairs are sound (no seat cracks or leg issues). Any or all are available, at no cost, to whoever may want to give these chairs a new life. We are blessed by a gift to purchase bright new ones for our classrooms. Used (damaged) Carillon (01-05)

St. Peter, West Penn, has a Schulmerich Carillon, MagnaBell 2, Model # 36-973-0. The carillon runs off a tape that was lodged inside, there are still many working components that could maybe help repair another church’s system, along with about 50 tapes that seem fine. We would be more than happy to offer these components for free to anyone that can use them. They will be available until our spring cleanup in March.
