Consider prepaying your 2018 Pledge
The new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) legislation raises the standard deduction for income taxes beginning in 2018. The Tax Policy Center estimates that the number of taxpayers who will itemize their deductions in 2018 (and thereby get tax savings from charitable gifts) will fall from some 45 million under current law to just 15 million under the new legislation.
  • If you currently itemize, and are financially able to do so, consider giving some or all of next year's gifts to the church before the end of this year.
  • You can claim your 2018 gifts on your 2017 taxes (due April of 2018) and give the church a boost! To qualify, the gift must be made by the end of 2017.
  • You can make a gift electronically here.  Choose "Pre-Pay Pledge" as the fund.
If you have questions, reach out to your tax professional to see if this is an opportunity that might be beneficial to you.  - Brecksville UMC Finance Committee

Volunteer Appreciation Pancake Breakfast
Sunday, January 7 at 10 am / / Fellowship Hall

We are thrilled to announce that our Christmas Offering collected over $7,000 for the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build 2018! The concept of the Apostles Build is simple one — area churches come together to fully rehab a Habitat for Humanity house. Each church provides a portion of the prayer power, a portion of the funds and a portion of the labor to build a house in partnership with a local family. Learn more about Habitat for Humanity, Greater Cleveland on their Facebook Page.

Help Fill the Food Tree for Brookside!   The most needed items are coffee, tea, cooking oil, canned fruit, breakfast cereals, spaghetti and spaghetti sauces, jelly, canned tuna, stew, sugar, salad dressings, mayonnaise, pickles and olives, canned chili, chicken and dumplings. There is also a great need for non-food items such as toilet paper, hand soap, napkins, bath soap, laundry soap, dish soap, paper towels, toothpaste, and household cleaners. Thank you for helping our brothers and sisters in need in Cleveland!

Hat & Mitten Tree
Our collection of hats, mittens, gloves scarves and socks for  the Northeast Ohio Coalition for  the Homeless is growing.  Claudia brought a bunch of her beautiful knit creations, and Hildegard's lovingly knitted hats are back again this year.   The students of Hilton Elementary are joining their hat and mitten tree with ours this year! Isn't that great?
Hang your donations on the tree (you don't have to make them yourself!) and they will be delivered to those in need this winter.  Want to go further?  Blankets are a big need, especially outdoor blankets with plastic on one side.
The Hat and Mitten tree is located on the main floor of the church, in the Narthex (the area just outside of the church sanctuary.)  Thank you for helping!

Please be patient with our recycling bins! They're overflowing with wrapping paper, packaging, boxes, holiday catalogs and cards.  Thank you for saving all items made of paper for recycling and for helping to earn money for our hunger ministry!  Bins are typically emptied on Thursdays, but our pick up days may shift with the holidays.
