Music Event: Entertainment & Education - July 19
Please join us tomorrow night in Friends Hall at 7pm. Saint Andrew will host a trio of musicians, Nebular Blue, who play classical music for an educational event. Nebular Blue is a Kansas City-based trio committed to composing, performing, commissioning, and premiering new art music to educate and entertain communities in Kansas and abroad. Nebular Blue has been invited to perform at national and regional conferences across the US. Upcoming performances include a joint concert with the Meadowlark Project on July 24th at the Cider Gallery in East Lawrence at 7pm and at the Great Plains New Music Festival at the University of South Dakota.

Nebular Blue is composer/trombonist Nathan Brown, pianist Rachael Rule, and guitarist/composer Frank Nawrot.
Loaves & Fishes
Loaves and Fishes is the fund we use to help those in need. Often those are the folks that come to the church needing food or gas money. Sometimes they are members of the Saint Andrew family. Loaves and Fishes is funded by over and above gifts from members of the congregation. Right now our funds are running low, so if you are able to make a gift please consider doing so. Checks may be placed in the offering basked with "loaves & fishes" in the memo field. Or give online here by choosing "Mission - Loaves & Fishes" in the drop down fund menu.
Thank you for your generosity.
General Assembly
We have several Saint Andrew folk at the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) meeting in Des Moines July 20 – 24. Every two years Disciples gather from across the United States and Canada, as well as from around the world, for worship, study, and business.

Rev. Gary Duncan is doing the stage design for the General Assembly, as he has for a number of years. Alex Morse will be there in connection with his work with the Foods Resource Bank. Doug and Donna Helgeson are our voting representatives. Rev. René Jensen and her husband Rick will also be attending.

Please keep not only our SACC folks but all those who are attending General Assembly in your prayers for the coming week.
Sacred Earth, Sacred Worth Worship Series
One of the growing edges for the church in the 21st century is learning to move beyond rigid categories and either/or thinking. Our upcoming worship series Sacred Earth, Sacred Worth will utilize the insights of Creation Spirituality to help us begin to think holistically about our faith. Creation Spirituality encourages the holistic, interdependent linking of science, art, service, and mysticism, helping us to see that spirituality and ecology, art and justice are deeply connected to each other.
The worship series begins Sunday, August 4, and will run throughout the month of August. The weekly themes are:
  • Week 1- August 4 Creation as Blessing Genesis 1:1 – 2:4
  • Week 2 - August 11 The Paths of Life Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
  • Week 3 - August 18 Glorious Diversity Psalm 148
  • Week 4 - August 25 Sacred Creative Vocation Genesis 2: 4b – 9, 15-17
For the duration of the series we will be doing some things in worship differently, particularly the opening. We will be using different, non-traditional translations of the Lord’s Prayer every week. The scriptures will be presented in a variety of ways. But much of the worship service will remain the same: offering, communion, and closing.

Please join us for this joyful celebration of God’s creation.
Children's Art Gallery
Does your child love to draw or paint? We are looking for original children's artwork for our upcoming worship series: Sacred Earth, Sacred Worth. Beginning Sunday, August 4, we'll display 8 1/2 x 11 pictures depicting the first 6 days of creation. Choose a day from the following list to draw or paint (or do a picture for each day!) Please make sure your child's name is on each picture submitted and turn in to the church office by July 28, if possible. Later submissions will of course be displayed as well!

Day 2 -- Sky
Day 3 -- Dry land and plants
Day 4 -- Sun, moon, and stars
Day 5 -- Birds and sea creatures

Worship: 8:30 & 10:45 am
Education 9:30 am
Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

Scripture: John 17:2O-26

I’m a big fan of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Helplessly Hoping is one of my favorite songs by them. While the harmony is great and each of the verses is good, it’s the chorus that makes it my favorite:

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

While this song is about a romantic relationship between two people, it also reminds me of the power and importance of living in community. This Sunday we’ll be considering what it means to be one with each other – to live in community. I hope to see you there.

In peace,

Joys & Concerns
We ask God's blessing and comfort for those struggling with health issues, life's other difficulties. Keep in your prayers Grace Cho as she awaits medical test results and Jeff Dazey’s mother, Linda, who had a heart attack recently. Please hold Ally, Joel, Rich and Crysta Baier in your prayers as they deal with the recurrence of Ally’s brain cancer. If you would like information about providing meals or other ways to help, please contact the church office.

Welcome New Member!
This past Sunday, July 14, we were delighted to welcome Kristy Blomquist to the Saint Andrew church family.  Kristy has been blessing us with her amazing musical talents for the past year.  In addition, she and her daughter went with Saint Andrew to El Higueral last year and plan to go again this year. (Kristy is pictured with Guada, Immanuel, and Victor.)

Thank You!
Thank you to the multitude of people that helped make the twinning celebration picnic a success. John Marksbury (my biggest supporter), Anita Gordon Gilmore, Sandra Askey, those that helped set up, serve, and clean up, Val Webb for running the coloring station for the cards for the El Higueral children, Jerry Daugherty, Chuck Pickrel, and Jon Seitz for the piñata, Kristy Blomquist for the lovely music, Denise, Mark, and Patty for the sound system for the CD and power point presentation, and everyone who brought food. - Sandy Marksbury, Church Life Chair
