Katie Brown
Meet another amazing NTLP alumna, Katie Brown! Katie Brown first attended a National Teen Leadership Program summer camp in 2006. She heard about the National Teen Leadership Program through her grandfather Larry, who was good friends with the NTLP founder Laura Segura and her husband Sal. During Katie’s first year at camp, she was greatly impacted by our program stating, “The workshops and presenters dramatically changed my outlook on life, as well as stories from other participants.” Katie also feels that the interview and communication skills she learned at camp helped her greatly in her professional development. Katie returned to camp as a participant every year from 2007-2010.

After her years as a participant, Katie said she “wanted to give back the experience that I received as a teen.” Inspired to help other teens fully appreciate our program, Katie joined our volunteer staff in 2011, and has since staffed camp every year in both Northern and Southern California. However, Katie’s dedication does not just include camp, she also joined the Advisory Board and the Alumni Committee because she “wanted to help sustain the camp outside of just the once a year commitment.” Katie has also supported NTLP in other areas, such as assisting with the gala and designing the 2019 camp program book.

Katie graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2016 with a BA in Science in Elementary Education. Katie is a second grade teacher and lives in Red Bluff, California with her husband Kyle and their two lovely children, Emmett and Rylee. Katie says that NTLP has given her the tools to identify the strengths in others, a skill she uses often in both a personal and professional capacity. Katie is also grateful for the “life-long friends”she has made through her involvement with NTLP.

Sarah Wells, Motivational Speaker
We're excited to announce that we have booked our Sunday camp speaker, Sarah Wells, from The Fisher Agency.

Obstacles don’t scare Sarah Wells. As an Olympic hurdler and Pan Am Games silver medallist, this Olympian’s reputation was forged through overcoming challenges, redefining realistic, and achieving the incredible. Take her debut at the London Olympics in 2012, which came despite an injury that had her sidelined for months just the year before. While many reminded her to remain “realistic”, Sarah was strengthening a muscle that people couldn’t see – belief. Sarah knew she should have quit at any point during the injury and everyone would have understood. But, she didn’t. Sarah fought to realize her dream and discovered a strength she never knew she had. By the time she was cleared to return to training, Sarah had fostered an unwavering belief in herself, so strong that it fast tracked her to achieving things she had only dreamed of.
