Department of Visual Arts Exhibition
May 1 - 26, 2018
Junk Food by Erica Libenow; Best of Show
This annual exhibit presents the artwork, created within the last year by Department of Visual Art (DoVA) students. Student work is chosen from Spring and Fall quarters of 2017 and Winter quarter of 2018 at Yakima Valley College. Classes include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and design. A large selection of the students' best work makes this one of the favorite exhibitions of the year and a wonderful opportunity to purchase art. In addition to the student artwork, each instructor shows the creativity of their own personal work.
Don't forget to submit your artwork for the 10th annual Members' Exhibition! Deadline for submissions is MAY 12th.

"Matika Wilbur, a visual storyteller from the Swinomish and Tulalip peoples of coastal Washington, for the past five years has been traveling and photographing Indian Country in pursuit of one goal: To Change the Way We See Native America.
Matika has in this endeavor visited members of over 300 sovereign nations throughout 40 states, from Tlingits in Alaska to the Pima in Arizona, Pomos in California to Wampanoags on Cape Cod. Through her lens, we are able to see the diversity, vibrancy and realness of Indian Country, and in seeing, challenge and surpass stereotypical representations and refresh the national conversation about contemporary Native America."

Jack McEntire
April - May
Local sculptor Jack McEntire will present a showing of wood and rock sculpture at the Yakima Maker Space Gallery during the month of April.  Carvings will cover the time frame from the beginning of his career 21 years ago.  The exhibition will include his first 3-D carving, first relief carving, and a totem created just this year.  The bulk of the works will be derived from his personal collection of sculpture produced by artists from all over the world.  There will be works from artists in Italy, Australia, Zimbabwe, and all across North America.  Most of the art will be made from wood, but there will also be several stone works presented.
