Worship 8:30am & 10:45am

Education 9:30am
Third Sunday of Advent

Scripture: Luke 3:1-20

The theme for the 3rd Sunday of Advent is Joy. And nothing says joy like kids singing! Join us in worship this week as the children’s choir shares their Christmas program with us (in both services). There will be offerings from our adult choir and other Saint Andrew musicians as well, so joy is truly the theme of the day.

While we won’t have the usual sermon, the message will be delivered through storytelling again; and Mark and I will both share reflections throughout the service. We’re thinking about John the Baptist’s call to “make a highway in the desert,” and “prepare the way of the Lord.” I wonder what that requires… How do you suppose our challenges now are different from those who waited for a Messiah then? And how do you think our struggles might be exactly the same?

As we continue our theme “Go Tell It!” I hope we are all watching for unique ways and places to share the hope and joy of this season in our community. We continue to have many opportunities to give, to serve, and to share the love through our various mission efforts. You can shop at the Advent art sale in Friend’s Hall to support our youth ministry; give to our Hand of Welcome ministry and our sister community El Higueral; contribute to the various collections for those in need; and of course, volunteer to help with our IHN host week—which is the week of Christmas! There is so much to do… but it is all joy.

Don’t forget our annual congregational meeting Sunday at 5pm. We’ll vote on the slate of leaders for 2019; share a draft of the ministry budget for next year; and, most exciting of all, introduce the Senior Pastor Search committee! This group of folks has agreed to serve in a very important role, and will need your prayers and support in the months ahead. This is a great time to celebrate and thank them, and help them prepare for the work ahead. We’ll serve refreshments (yes, there will be wine too), and childcare is available upon request.

See you Sunday, as we take in the fullness of this season together.

Peace,
Erin
