As GRRAND volunteers consider all that has transpired during 2017 and look forward to 2018, the strongest sentiment that emerges is that of sincere gratitude.  What a year it has been for GRRAND and what bright hope we have for the months ahead!  During 2017, GRRAND realized the magnitude of the gift bestowed upon the organization by our gracious benefactor, Ellen Leslie.  A kennel to call GRRAND’s home was merely a dream until this past year.  With the gift of Vine Crest Kennel and another generous financial endowment by Ellen Leslie, GRRAND has been provided with the opportunity to grow and develop in a far greater capacity than ever before.  For this, we are eternally grateful!  We are also incredibly grateful for the countless hours, GRRAND volunteer, Robert Carr, donated, working day and night for months with contractors and volunteers to help renovate the buildings and grounds to become the top-notch facility it now is.  We are so proud of our new kennel and so happy to find that it serves the needs of our rescued dogs in such a superb way!  GRRAND has also been blessed during 2017 with the volunteer support of some of the most generous and capable persons you will ever find.  Businesses donated services and materials to support the kennel, volunteers stepped up to coordinate and care for the property and the needs of the dogs, and monetary donations were made to acquire much needed supplies.  We have been truly blessed by the incredible generosity of our GRRAND volunteers, members, sponsors, and donors!  The 2017 GRRAND Affair was a terrific event at a new venue and resulted in generating much-needed funds to assist GRRAND in continuing to care for the medical needs of our rescued dogs during the upcoming year.  With sincere thanks to Mike & Janine Knapp and Kendra Bauman, GRRAND Tails communication has been better than ever through the donation of their ongoing e-news blasts, informing GRRAND members of critical needs of the dogs and other important GRRAND information.   GRRAND has an incredible amount to be thankful for as we close out 2017 and look forward to the year ahead!  As we enter 2018, GRRAND welcomes new board members, Jeremy Ballard, Jennifer Smith, Lisa Cochran-Hall, Kathy Walts, Robert Carr, and Debbie Thomas to the team.  We will have the largest board ever with a total of 15 members and hope that the tasks we can accomplish as an organization during the year ahead will be a reflection of the caliber of our volunteers and members and the quality of our organization.  We sincerely thank our membership and all who have supported GRRAND during the past year and look forward to a great and successful 2018!

Don't forget that GRRAND has a convenient “Wish List” of items routinely needed at the kennel that directly help GRRAND dogs and those who care for them.
GRRAND is particularly looking for the grooming items for the new kennel.
You can find GRRAND’s wish list on Amazon. It’s simple and easy, and Amazon will send the items right to GRRAND so donors do not have to bring them in or send the supplies themselves. Put your Prime membership to good use and help make a difference for GRRAND dogs awaiting placement in a foster home.

Simply go to Amazon.com and select Lists, then Find a List or Registry. Search for GRRAND to view the wish list of much-needed items. When you are ready to checkout, just select GRRAND’s Gift Registry address to make sure the items are shipped to GRRAND.

Update from foster family: Cubby, or “Cub” as he is getting used to being called, is the most delightful 5 month old puppy! Cub is house trained and hasn’t had a single accident! He is currently being trained to ring bells on the door to alert when he would like to go out and already recognizes that the sound of the bells means he should come quick for some fun outside.

He is like all 5 month old puppies, meaning he loves chew toy time! He is learning that not everything is something that can be chewed and is grasping the concept of “leave it” and “off.” I dont think he will struggle with this for long as he strives to keep the humans in the room happy.
We have witnessed Cub with all types and sizes of dogs and he excels with each! He loves other puppies, and is great at knowing when enough play time is enough. He has spent days at doggie daycare where the staff say, “Cub and his puppy pals have the best time together! They run, lick, and chase each other until just exhausted, and then nap around the water bowl together!”
Cub is adjusting to life in a crate. He is growing more and more curious and starting to enter by himself. He is still a little nervous once in and may send a few barks to let you know he is still there, but after a few minutes, he settles down and goes fast to chewing on a toy.
We aren’t sure how Cub would do with kids. He definitely has the energy to keep up and is trainable, so it may just take some time to learn boundaries.
Cub is a wonderful pup who looks forward to long walks, kisses, play time, and snuggles with his forever family!

Getting fit with your dog in 2018
Here are some top tips for improving your dog’s fitness:
Go the extra mile – do an extra circuit around the local park or go a bit further on country walks, but remember that your dog should be on a lead in the countryside when there is livestock around
Think toys not treats – toys that a dog can play with and get fun exercise from can get that tail wagging as energetically as treats can
Join a club – lots of vet practices run fit clubs and weight-control clubs
Get the right diet – make sure that your dog’s diet is right for its breed, size, age and lifestyle
Ask your local vet – your local vet will know and be able to offer the best advice on your pet and its needs
If in doubt about your pet’s health, exercise regime or diet ask your local vet.
