Protecting Nantucket's Big Oak Trees
May 7 10am

Join Monica Davis, a PhD student at UMass Amherst, as she shares her extensive knowledge and research on black oak trees in the Cape and Islands. Many of Nantucket’s century-plus “big” trees are black oaks, and are being affected by the oak gall wasp. Monica will discuss the results of her research and provide some info on methods for treating the wasp that is damaging these majestic trees.

Rosé Fever!
by Leah Mojer
Did you know that Nantucket drinks 40% more rosé than the rest of Massachusetts combined?
I actually don’t know if that’s true but it’s a common rumor out here based on some hard evidence. Nantucket is positively fanatic about its rosé in the spring and summer months. Pairing perfectly with everything from lobster or cookouts, to posh beach and pool parties, rosé is the “little black dress” of the Nantucket summer wine scene. The excitement this time of year is all about when the new vintage will hit the shores of the states, many of them yet to arrive from across the world and fresh as can be having been bottled just months before (look for 2015 vintages for the best quality and freshness).
This week, we welcome two new arrivals; a vinho verde rosé from Portugal and a pretty little selection from the beautiful area of the Camargue in France. Our third is one that is also new to the farm but by no means new to the rosé spotlight. Read on, this is a fever you will definitely want to catch!

Mapreco Vinho Verde
Zesty and tongue prickling, this fresh, fruity rosé from Portugal has serious moxie!  Aromas and tastes of fresh red fruits. It has a bright, crisp nectar character tempered by vivacious acidity. Perfect as an aperitif, with apps or just to take along to the beach!
No corkscrew required!
$8.99

Domaine de la Forêt
translates to the “Forest Estate” located in the mystically beautiful area of the Rhone called The Camargue.  They are a proud Member of the Federation of Independent Winegrowers; an emblem of a demanding and rich viticultural diversity of soils, climates and expertise.
Their rose exudes pure style with warm notes of dried cherry, lemon zest and rose water showcased in the prettiest genie-shaped bottle. The long, watermelon rind inflected finish is mouth-wateringly crisp $12.99

Domaine de Fontsainte Gris de Gris
Explosive aromas of red currants, rose petals, white pepper and dried herbs. On the palate, the Gris de Gris opens with juicy cherry, currant and strawberry fruit complicated by suggestions of lavender, anise, spicy cinnamon and blood orange zest. Dry and gripping, it finishes with berry fruit, hints of orange peel and herbs backed by a palate dusting of stony minerals. Perfect for warm weather sipping, it will also work as a fine companion to ratatouille, grilled squashes, broiled salmon and roast chicken.
$16.99
