National Trails Day

Saturday, June 2 | 8:00AM to 12:00PM

Valley Forge National Historic Park

Celebrate America's 50th Anniversary of the National Trails System by visiting Valley Forge Park for National Trails Day! Try well-loved trails or lesser-known ones that will surprise and challenge you. Join park staff, partners, and volunteers on guided hikes and walks. All programs are free, though space is limited and online pre-registration is required for most trips. 

 

Yoga Happy Hour

Tuesdays, June through August | 5:30 to 6:30PM
King of Prussia Town Center
Enjoy free outdoor yoga sessions all summer long! The introductory class welcomes all levels of practice. Afterward, stick around for Happy Hour specials and freebies from KOPTC restaurants. BYO mat, towel, and water. 

 

Upper Merion 2040 Comp Plan Open House

This is your chance to provide feedback that will be incorporated into the final recommendations regarding land use, transportation, open space, environmental protection; both at the township-wide and neighborhood scale. McKaig Nature Center's Festival Under the Stars

Yard Waste Collection

Now through October 26

The yard waste collection season will run through Friday, October 26, 2018. Pickup days will vary each week depending on workload and weather. We will make every effort to collect yard waste the same week the request is submitted. Fill out a request for service online or call the Public Works Department at 610-265-8465 before 12:00PM on the Tuesday of the week you wish to have your yard waste picked up. Please follow the collection guidelines.

Montgomery County Tire Collection

Saturday, June 9 | 9:00AM to 12:00PM 

Montgomery County Community College (Enter at 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422)

The Montgomery County Commissioners authorize these FREE events to prevent
tires from being improperly disposed of and to reduce breeding grounds for disease
carrying mosquitoes. The tires that are collected will be shredded and re-purposed by a
local business into products such as road surface material, highway sound barrier wall
material, and playground material. For more information, visit Montgomery County's website.

 

Environmental Updates

Emerald Ash Borer: Phase II

The second phase of the township's Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan at Heuser Park has begun. During this time, preparations are being made for a timber harvest along the Schuylkill River West Trail. The felling of the trees will take place beginning Monday, June 4, which means access to the trail will be restricted for safety reasons. The trail will remained closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to take 4-6 weeks (weather permitting). Learn more about the plan. 

Public Presentation on the Spotted Lanternfly

Monday, June 11 | 7:30 to 8:30PM

Phoenixville Borough Hall, 352 Bridge St.

The Phoenixville Tree Advisory Commission and Penn State Extension Master Gardener Sally Sue Richmond will hold a presentation about this new invasive bug that is threatening our local horticulture. Volunteer on a Citizen Board

There are 25 commissions, boards, and authorities currently serving Upper Merion Township. They are staffed by appointed citizens who assist in township government by advising, informing, and assisting the Board of Supervisors. These citizen volunteers provide a valuable service to the township.

Roadway Restrictions & Alerts

Gulph Mills Country Club

Please be aware that the Gulph Mills Country Club, located at 200 Swedeland Road, is hosting two separate private fireworks displays for weddings – the first on June 2 and the second on June 30. The fire company will be on standby for safety and the displays will each end by 9:15PM.

 

Schuylkill Expressway Safety and Traffic Improvements

This project is the first phase of a long-range, multi-modal transportation plan designed to enhance travel along Interstate 76. PennDOT will install Variable Speed Limit and Queue Warning systems along Interstate 76 from U.S. 1 to just west of U.S. 202 in Philadelphia, Lower Merion and Upper Merion townships and West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in the summer of 2019. Learn more.

 

First Avenue Safety Improvements

The First Avenue Road Diet is a safety improvement project for motorists and pedestrians. The project will reduce the 4-lane road to 3 lanes that includes a lane of traffic in each direction, a dedicated center turn lane, and bicycle lanes or a wider shoulder. The project is expected to begin in June. Learn more.

 

US 422 E. Ramp to Route 23 Temporarily Closed

The ramp from EB US 422 to Route 23 (Valley Forge Rd) is scheduled to be closed through late summer for construction on a new fly-over ramp. Learn more.
