CROSS & The Switchblade COMIC
Snapshots of Hope-Refugees

Developments at Teen Challenge in Beirut, Lebanon are extremely exciting. Cathy and I are in Beirut and Bekaa Valley for ministry. The family of Teen Challenge Lebanon's executive director, Garo, was deeply
touched by addiction. He made a commitment to do something about it. He pioneered a ministry, "No for Drugs." Cathy and I met him at an ISAAC Conference in Cambodia in 2012 and discussed Teen Challenge. Now, with TC Lebanon under that umbrella, they are at the forefront distributing thousands of copies of the Cross and the Switchblade book
across the Middle East to combat the intensifying narcotic crisis with the Gospel. In the face of violence and escalating tensions, he is boldly going forward with construction and carrying the good news, and Putting Hope within Reach.

On February 9, 1958, 60 years ago, David Wilkerson sold his television set and committed to pray for the lost. This led to 19 days of prayer that would change the world.

David Wilkerson opened the Feb 24, 1958 LIFE MAGAZINE to an article about a racially charged trial of seven boys who brutally murdered Michael Farmer, an innocent handicapped boy, over a senseless turf war. It was the OJ Simpson trial of its day.

As he looked into the eyes of the boys in the drawing, God spoke to his heart. "Go ... help those boys." Vision empowers some men to see things that no one else can see. While others "saw" with hatred and anger, he was touched by the need.

He drove to New York City. As he sat in the court room, he was filled with faith, but as the day waned, and he stood to speak to the Judge... "Your Honor ..." he was seized and violently escorted to the hallway into a bevy of cameras and reporters. He found himself in the headlines of the New York Daily News (above).

He returned home in defeat thinking that he'd failed, but could not shake the witness of the Holy Spirit. "Go help those boys." His grandfather told him, "Davie, maybe those boys aren't the ones God wants you to reach."

He returned to the mean streets of New York City and facing the most violent gangs, they looked up and said, "Hey preach, we saw you in the newspaper. You are the preacher from the Egyptian kings trial. They hate you, they hate us. You must be one of us. His very humiliation became his ticket to reach the most hopeless.

We are tackling an ambitious agenda. Garo arranged meetings from the street, Syrian Refugee Camps of the Bekaa Valley, and a City-wide Youth Meeting at Life Center on Saturday. We will be with Todd White. Please pray with us for a powerful move of God in outreach, services, and at Kingdom Fiesta, Beirut’s 3-day multi-cultural celebration of God’s love.

After 60

The release of the
Challenge Study Bible written as a Discipleship Manual for new Christians; especially those with a life-controlling problem. This is not an exclusive Bible for those in recovery but they will especially benefit from it. To order go to the Brooklyn Teen Challenge web site or shop below.

The growth of Teen Challenge has been nothing short of miraculous. From humble beginnings in that first home on Clinton Ave. in Brooklyn, NY, Teen Challenge has grown to over 1400 centers in 120 nations worldwide. The Cross and the Switchblade, the story of the founding of Teen Challenge and David Wilkerson, sold over 15 million copies and the feature-length motion picture has been seen by over 33 million men and women. The largest and most successful residential program, ministering to people with life-controlling problems with drugs, alcohol and crime, is celebrating 60 years of changed lives, through a vital relationship with Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit. GLORY TO GOD!

The sounds of hammers, machinery, voices, and workers fill the air at the Teen Challenge construction site in the rural mountains outside Beirut. The inaugural Teen Challenge Residential Center is rising up the mountain. They are trusting God for finances for their construction on a daily basis.
We are excited to see the center rising before our eyes. We are standing with them in prayer for their miracle, to make this center a reality in Beirut, Lebanon and a strategic base of operations across Jordan, Syria, and other open doors for the Good News in this historic moment of time. Please pray as they are believing for God to provide the finances to keep their workers going! 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesian 6:12

There is a war raging. The battle is for the heart and mind of the culture and more than that, a generation of young people. During “dark” times like these, it is so important to make sure we know who the real adversary is!  People are not our enemies. Politics, hardware, and people are not the problem; they are the symptom. Hell has a strategy.

My heart breaks because of the terrible tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. The senseless loss of life is more than an indictment on mental illness, guns or the inactivity of our political process. It is a reflection of spiritual warfare.

As I prayed and read the blogs, post after post posed the question, "Where was God while this young man was murdering innocents?"

"Why wasn't Jesus at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School?"

The answer is simple, yet clear.  Jesus does not go where He is not welcomed. Even to his own Church, Jesus says, “Behold I stand at the door and knock.” (Rev 3:20). If He will not push His way into His own house, we have no reason to presume that He would force his way into a bastion of secular humanism like America’s schools.

It has been nearly 56 years since the Landmark Supreme Court decisions on June 25,1962, (Engel v. Vitale) and the following year, (Abington School District v. Schempp) that removed prayer and Bible reading from schools.  Hell had a strategy. Jesus Christ has been barred from the schoolhouse. Metal detectors have replaced the 10 Commandments. Those who want to pray or share their faith are forbidden while “free expression” and aberrant life styles are encouraged. It seems an obvious contradiction of reason to BAN Jesus from the schoolhouse and then BLAME HIM when things go so horribly wrong there.

While certain political forces have concluded that the problem is guns, they miss the fact that the proliferation of weaponry is not the most significant change in America. There were guns everywhere when I was a kid. Some even carried guns in school, but there were no mass shootings.  Why? The culture was different.  It is the exclusion of God, devaluation of human life, an explosion of violence and media’s glorification of barbarity, revenge and killing that have changed.

As Hollywood and television feign concern, they continue to belch out more obscene, vile, and bloody filth. At the same time, video games like Resident Evil, Sniper and even Grand Theft Auto, exploit the rage of an entitled generation with senseless mayhem and violence. Every year, game graphics become more realistic, bringing players closer to the action than ever before. This realism ratchets up the brutality and kids are immersed in these orgies of mayhem for hours.

Who will venture into the darkness to reach out to connect them with their God-given destiny? When will the church awaken from our self-congratulating search for blessing and ease, to turn our hearts to the lost?  As long as the Church is more Hollywood than holy, ministry is more pastoral pep talk than preaching the WORD, and more noise than anointing, the powers of darkness in the unseen world, win.

Until the church rises up, politicians will talk, as parks and amphitheaters host community prayer vigils and religious services for family, friends and those who are the casualties of the strategies of “evil spirits in heavenly places.” Funny that in our society, it’s OK to pray for the family and friends AFTER a school tragedy, but it is forbidden to pray for safety in our schools before disaster strikes.

We dare not live as though we are not at war. At home, in our churches and in our communities, we cannot just sit and curse the darkness. It is time to get on our knees to pray, and then get up, and let our Light shine!

As Teen Challenge celebrates 60 years of ministry, the Global Teen Challenge family invites you to join us for 40 days of Prayer & Fasting!
We are asking God to empower us to Put Hope within the Reach of Every Addict, over 273 million! Will you stand with us once again against the forces of darkness? It is not too late to join the season of prayer in 2018.

  • If you joined us last year, you are most likely already receiving the daily devotional.
  • If you know someone who would still like to receive them, please forward this email to them so they can sign up at the link below, or send them to our website at www.livingfree.org/40days

Thank you for your prayers as you join us, as we look forward to many miracles in 2018!

Again I say
unto you,
That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done
for them of
my Father which is in heaven.

Urgent Prayer Request!!
Although we rejoice at this new church, the government in the city of Kigali has closed well over 100 churches in the last two days across all denominations. The codes are new and strict and many of our churches face this in the next couple of days. Please pray!! #rwanda3 please comment praying and share. We need this to get communicated. David & Rhonda

2) GTC Columbus, Georgia

We appreciate your prayers for a critical meeting of the GTC Regional Directors of Teen Challenge and Strategic Ministries in Yuchi, Alabama. Pray for the Lord's direction, prophetic insight and traveling mercies as each team member comes to the meeting. We sense a strong burden to move from the prophetic invitation to PUT HOPE WITHIN REACH, and now sense a prophetic mandate. Pray that we can wisely move to REFRAME POSSIBLE as we go from networking to mobilization.

3) Johannesburg, South Africa April 16-23

Dr. Jacobus Nomdoe, the new indigenous Global Teen Challenge Africa Regional Director, will preside over the inaugural Leadership Intensive in Johannesburg, South Africa. Pray for safe travel as leaders come from across Africa to plot a strategy moving forward for the continent of Africa. The unparalleled growth that we have seen must now be harnessed, engaged and managed for lasting fruitfulness.

4) FLORIDA Broward County.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High tragedy.

Let us continue to pray for the families of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High tragedy.

Please pray for the families and friends of 17 innocent victims as well as 24 wounded or injured, (several still in the hospital).

As we pray for the families and friends of the victims of 17 families and 24 individuals wounded or injured, let us also remember teachers across our nation. They are heroes who serve our young people. Pray that God will touch their hearts with His love and truth.

5) HEALTH Pray for TC centers around the world.

There seems to be an unusual attack of sickness on many Teen Challenge leaders around the world. Please pray for the health and refreshing of amazing leaders who pioneer centers around the world.
Especially pray against cancer, injury, and illness.
Some prayer focus can go to Italy, the Netherlands, and our dear brother Louis who is battling lung cancer in Turkey. Thank you for standing with these wonderful men and women. Having modeled outstanding perseverance, we are believing with them for their miracle.

Lord, we thank you and agree as touching this thing, while they have demonstrated an example of endurance in the face of affliction, we believe the hour of the miracle is before us. We agree for that miracle in Jesus name.

5) Rev. Billy Graham--changes his address.

Dr Billy Graham was man mightily used by the Lord to proclaim God's love story around the world and tremendous partner to David Wilkerson & Teen Challenge. His message was simple, "Jesus loves you and has a better, eternal plan for you, if you accept Him as your personal Savior." A faithful husband, father and leader, he unashamedly preached the Good News to an estimated 215 million people in 185 countries. His reach, in prayer and counsel, extended to a dozen presidents as well as millions of people who watched him on TV or listened to him on the radio through his decades of ministry. A humble man who crossed the lines of denomination and race, he shared an uncompromising message of salvation through receiving the death and resurrection of Jesus as full payment for the penalty of sin.

In his own words "Someday you will hear or read that Billy Graham is dead. Don't you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will have just changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God."

Please pray for the family and the ministry that continues to proclaim God's love story to our lost and hurting world. The Bible tells us in Revelation 14:13: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord … that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.”

Pray with us for the global advance of the gospel. Pray for workers for the Harvest ...Teen Challenge Centers in 120 countries need staff and we currently have invitations to start Teen Challenge in over 32 new nations. They are crying out for help. They need the power of God to meet a pressing social need... but we know it has a SPIRITUAL ROOT.
MATTHEW 9: 37 Then He said to His disciples,
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send
out workers into His harvest.”
