Wine Time!

For over twenty years, the Nantucket Wine & Food Festival has brought distinguished winemakers and chefs together for a world-class epicurean celebration. Over the next five days, the island will be buzzing with wine tastings, lunches, dinners and educational seminars. Here at Bartlett's, we have been busy curating delicious, responsibly farmed, affordable wines, ciders and beers for our customers and island visitors to sip and enjoy. Here are a few of our favorites that will tickle your taste buds while in between the festivities!

For the Perfect Hostess Gift-

All of the wines at I Clivi are grown organically, and are cleanly but very naturally made, expressive, distinctive and mouthwatering. The Ribolla Gialla (say ree BOHL lah JAHL lah) is a complex, distinctive grape variety showing refined notes of herbs, minerals, citrus, almond, & flowers. The perfect thing to wow your hosts!

For the Impromptu Party Goers-

The Cellario family takes joy in their native surroundings of the hills around Carrù in Piemonte, Italy.  They work only with native grapes for this reason, farm organically and are hands off in the cellar. Self described as “wine of the people”, their È Rosso, affectionately nicknamed their “slurp wine”, is all organic Barbera that's ready to party!  Berries and spice nearly jump out of the glass when the top is first popped. The color is an exuberant violet and the palate is – well – slurpable! Fresh cherry, soft tannin, thyme and earthy notes all top off the perfect liter of red for any celebration.

For the Chablis Lovers-

Located in Chablis, The Béru family has owned the historical Château de Béru domain for 400 years.
Laurence and their daughter,  Athénaïs, for which this wine is named, are now running the domain.  Tremendous efforts have been undertaken to revive the vineyards and farm the grapes
biodynamically. These wines are enchanting and we are so excited to be able to share this naturally made white burgundy with you. Floral with crunchy green apple, minerals and citrus.  1 gram SO2 at bottling.

For the California Wine Lover-

It can be hard to find wines with great farming in California, but Stolpman Vineyards is doing just that. Stolpman practices organic, and dry farms their vines to force them to fight for nutrients and moisture. By naturally yielding fewer grapes, each vine pours all of its energy into ripening concentrated, vibrant, undiluted and balanced grape clusters, resulting in pure, concentrated wines of excellent quality. Their Sauvignon Blanc, grown on limestone gives notes of citrus and hay with lusher passion fruit, pear, and green apple.

Geraniums have been popular with gardeners for generations.
These tough, full-sun plants will give you a big 'bang for your buck' as they bloom all summer with proper care.
Water when dry, feed every couple weeks (follow the label directions) pinch off the dead blossoms, and your window boxes and containers will look great for months.

Eat the Garden
Nature's edibles are starting to arrive! Herbs like Basil, cilantro, thyme, & rosemary are still too tender for the outdoors but would be most happy
in a window sill in the kitchen.
Strawberries, lettuces, wild onions, squash plants, and more are ready and waiting to be planted outdoors or bring us your pots and we will plant them for you!

Who's Your Farmer? Get to Know our Staff

Rai is pictured in cap & gown!

Rai-Jhan Davis, Cashier Supervisor
Rai-Jhan, or more commonly known on the farm as Rai is originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Rai studied at Fayetteville State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  She joined the Farm's Customer Service Team in February of 2019.  First impressions can be tough and arriving in February was definitely a tough one!  Our island's size and weather were harsh for Rai to say the least.  She also thought she was in a completely different century, between the cobblestone roads and the old buildings in town, it was quite the shock!  Rai has swiftly become a friendly face and reliable Supervisor at the registers.  Rai most looks forward to seeing her friends, aka “Farmily”, every day when she comes to work and the cheesecake in the dessert case has never been a disappointment.  When Rai isn’t on the farm she is a hard one to find!  She enjoys getting in all the extra sleep that she can (while she can!), and enjoys all the treats she buys herself at the Farm before she leaves for her days off.  Fun fact about Rai, although there are many, is that she spent a couple years of High School in Jamaica.  Rai lives up to her name, a constant ray of sunshine!  We love having her at the registers, she is wonderful with both customers and coworkers, and we cannot wait to see her enjoy the change from dreary winter to sunny summer! Say hello when you see her!
