Climate Rally at MA State House
Thursday, July 19 • Noon

In Response to House Leadership Moves to Shut Out Clean Energy Legislation

Last week, House leadership rejected the strong climate policies we’ve been advocating, despite the best efforts of 50 of our Representatives to push for a 3% RPS, DPU reform and prevention of a pipeline tax, . Instead of raising the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 2% instead of the 3% that would get us to 100% renewables by 2050, they favored weak agenda that would only get us to 100% renewables in the electric sector by 2085. We can’t wait 60 years to stop burning fossil fuels for electricity. The climate crisis is now, and we need urgent action.

350 MA / Better Future Project and other member organizations of Mass Power Forward are holding an Emergency Climate Justice and Immigrant Justice Rally and Vigil at the Massachusetts Statehouse this Thursday, July 19th at noon, to show House leadership as they head into conference committee that their constituents are serious about forward thinking climate policy. RSVP to show up here.

From Andrew Gordon of 350 MA:
We are asking everyone who comes to bring THREE copies of a picture of who they are fighting for — a child, grandchild, friend, community — and explain why on the back.

We are are asking everyone to upload this picture to social media with the hashtag #WhyWeWontRest and to tag House leadership to show them that their constituents demand action. Feel free to include the reason why you won’t rest until we have REAL climate action - whether it is for your grandchildren, the threat of extreme weather in your community, or even higher expectations for a “progressive” state leadership! We want to hear why, and its essential your representatives do too! As a reminder, here are our asks to our legislators:

1) Increase the RPS to 3% so that we can reach 50% renewable energy by 2030 and be 100% renewable by 2050.

2) Environmental justice codified so that MA can prioritize the health of minority, poor, and working class communities who have long been on the front-lines of climate change.  Our representatives need to pass 3% RPS and environmental justice or risk being a #climatefail.

We hope to see you there on Thursday. Be sure to share the event on Facebook and invite your friends. #WhyWeWontRest

In solidarity,
Andrew Gordon

Can’t make it to Boston?
Your Photos Still Can!

Please upload photos of #WhyWeWontRest, as mentioned above, by filling out
THIS FORM and uploading to THIS LINK. If you send them today, the photos can still make it to the rally and the State House, even if you can’t.

And don’t forget to also upload them to social media with the hashtag #WhyWeWontRest, along with your story of what it is you care about and why it’s threatened by climate change.

Thanks again for all you do to help push forward for a better energy future and against climate change
