HPN CALL SHEET
February 5th, 2020
Prayers for the Entertainment Industry

Happy almost Valentine’s Day to our faithful HPN pray-ers!

We want this email to be full of love this month and hope that you can take extra time to love the people around you. This is also the end of awards season, with the Academy Awards airing this Sunday to recognize the films of 2019. We are excited to tell you that this year there were more excellent films with Christian role models than in many past years. The Two Popes, Just Mercy, Dark Waters, A Hidden Life, Richard Jewell, Peanut Butter Falcon, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and Harriet are all full of gospel truth and characters. Let’s thank God that we are seeing His hand on our industry through these films. Your prayers are having a global impact!

Also, let’s pray for another wonderful ministry leader Gary Swanson, who runs a weekly Bible study at a studio. He broke his hip two weeks ago, and he and his wife Judy have asked for prayer to maneuver life while healing. Join us in lifting up these faithful servants in Hollywood.

And now let’s start praying for the many wonderful things happening in our industry...

PRAISES

HPN Staff

We want to let you know that the amazing Erin Batali is leaving after 2 1/2 years of incredible ministry at HPN. She is now heading toward getting a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Please take a moment to say goodbye to Erin and let her know if she has touched your life in any way at erinbatali@gmail.com.

We praise God for Erin’s replacement, Kaelyn Timmins. Kaelyn is a Biola film school graduate who is excited to start her career in Hollywood by serving at HPN. You’re going to love her! If you want to welcome Kaelyn, her new email address is kaelyn@hpnemail.org.

Demi Lovato

Praise God for Demi Lovato’s recovery and healing process. We asked our HPN community to pray for her following her drug overdose in July 2018. She recently spoke about the impact that God, church, and her supportive community had on her recovery. Demi said, “I had to realize that the God that I’m seeking, the God that I love and the God that I want to be my God is available 24/7, always at an arm’s length and constantly with me.” Let’s thank God for Demi’s healing, and continue to pray for her relationship with God to deepen and to bring her continued fulfillment.

UPDATES

WGA

Keep praying as the WGA begins important talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (the studios). Please pray for these upcoming talks, that God would give everyone wisdom, and that He would enable clear communication between all parties involved. Pray that empathy, understanding, and love for people would supersede business interests and success.

PRAYERS

Kobe Bryant

The tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna has been a shock to Hollywood, L.A., and the world. Please pray for Kobe’s wife Vanessa and their daughters, the families and friends of the other seven victims, the L.A. Lakers basketball team, and fans who are mourning Kobe’s death. Pray for God’s peace, comfort, and love to be upon our city. As you pray, read HPN member and animator Glen Keane’s beautiful tribute to Kobe.

Pray for Academy Awards

This Sunday, the 92nd Academy Awards will take place in Hollywood. During awards season, HPN member Stephanie reminds us to be praying that celebrities would feel intimately known by their Creator, no matter how the world may perceive them. Stephanie writes this prayer for celebrities: “Know that your struggles are never foreign or out of touch to your Maker, who loves you unconditionally.” One of our partner ministries, Mastermedia, created a guide to help you pray for the entertainment industry during the Oscars.

Hallmark CEO

As Hallmark looks for a replacement CEO, let’s pray for the search process. An HPN member who works at Hallmark encourages us to “pray for the new CEO of Hallmark and for them to have God's heart in making decisions on what shows get on the network, for them to show the love of Christ in how they treat employees, and that there is a sense of God's presence in the building.”

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Hollywood. We love you and will celebrate you this February 14th.

With love,
Karen, Erin, Kaelyn, Virginia, and Kim

Gossip. It permeates every part of every society across the globe. Human beings love to talk about other people. But God is saddened by gossip. This week the focus is on the temptations to gossip, the dangers of gossip, and how to make our words wholesome and encouraging, building people up and leading people to Jesus. Find out how changing your words can change others’ lives!
