Patrons on the Move

Dear Friends,

Many times people ask me why the Patrons do what they do.  For me, it is about the connection of art and beauty.  When we restore art, we bring the beautiful into people's lives; and with the beautiful comes hope.

Recently Pope Francis said, "I think the Vatican Museums are increasingly called to become a living home, inhabited and open to everyone, with the doors wide open to the people of the whole world...a place where everyone can feel represented."

When the Vatican Museums are supported, that is exactly what happens –supporting a home "where all are represented" and continue the focus on hope and beauty through the restoration of art.

Thank you for your support of the Illinois Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums.

I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous new year!

As always,

Art as a Carrier of Faith at the Art Institute of Chicago has become a favorite program for our members and is one of the Patrons' most successful events.  Our most recent gathering was held on Thursday, December 5, 2019.  The highlight of the evening was the magnificent Neopolitan Crèche.  Dr. Jacquelyn Coutré, Eleanor Wood Prince Associate Curator of European Painting and Sculpture before 1750, began the presentation sharing the artistic and historical viewpoint of the Crèche, followed by Reverend Louis J. Cameli, Archbishop Delegate for Formation and Mission in the Archdiocese of Chicago at Holy Name Cathedral, and John Shea, theologian, who shared their theological perspectives.  A wine and cheese reception was held afterwards at Terzo Piano.

A Celebration of the Light in Art: The Sacred Stain Glass Windows of Louis Comfort Tiffany was the theme of our fall event at The Richard H. Driehaus Museum.

The stained glass windows were displayed magnificently, lighted from behind to capture their beauty.  Everyone in attendance was able to view the stunning windows, all while being serenaded by Rich Daniels and Dean Rolando from City Lights Orchestra, and of course, sharing in fellowship, cocktails and appetizers too!

Remarks from Richard Driehaus and Cardinal Cupich were among the
  highlights of the evening.

Our 6th Annual Art & Faith Lecture Series was a success!  The evening began in St. James Chapel with presentations by Heather Becker and Dr. Pauline Viviano.  Closing remarks were given by Cardinal Cupich and our reception followed.

The weather did not cooperate this year and we were not able to enjoy the Quigley courtyard.  That didn't stop our Patrons from enjoying the music, food and fellowship.  We just had to say indoors!

Thank you to the following who helped sponsor the event:
