Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock!

Earlier this week, the Upper Merion Township Library held their annual Summer Reading Program Preview! Residents of all ages came out to learn about and sign up for this year's program and get free water ice. Don't worry if you missed it, you can still sign up at the library.

Rambler Service Update

Beginning Monday, June 18, Acme will become a request stop. Please call 610-354-8899 fifteen minutes prior to the "Request" time listed. On Saturdays, you must call 610-613-2349 in order to be picked up from any request stop. Rambler schedules can be picked up at the Public Information Office in the township building. 

Yard Waste Collection

Now through October 26

The yard waste collection season will run through Friday, October 26, 2018. Pickup days will vary each week depending on workload and weather. We will make every effort to collect yard waste the same week the request is submitted. Fill out a request for service online or call the Public Works Department at 610-265-8465 before 12:00PM on the Tuesday of the week you wish to have your yard waste picked up. Please follow the collection guidelines.

Montgomery County Tire Collection

Saturday, June 16 | 9:00AM to 12:00PM 

Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center

The Montgomery County Commissioners authorize these free events to prevent
tires from being improperly disposed of and to reduce breeding grounds for disease
carrying mosquitoes. The tires that are collected will be shredded and re-purposed by a
local business into products such as road surface material, highway sound barrier wall

Montgomery County Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Abington Junior High School

Need to get rid of old paint products, kerosene, or other hazardous materials? Drop them off at Montgomery County's Household Hazardous Waste Collection. For more information, visit Montgomery County's website.


Environmental Updates

Emerald Ash Borer Phase II: Timber Harvest at Heuser Park

The second phase of the township's Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan at Heuser Park has begun. Over the next five weeks, a timber harvest is taking place on the Schuylkill River West Trail. Access to the trail will be restricted during the logging process for safety reasons.

Volunteer on a Citizen Board

There are 25 commissions, boards, and authorities currently serving Upper Merion Township. They are staffed by appointed citizens who assist in township government by advising, informing, and assisting the Board of Supervisors. These citizen volunteers provide a valuable service to the township.

Excursion to Stoneleigh 

Thursday, June 21 | 9:45AM (Sign up by June 20)

We're hosting a free excursion to Stoneleigh, the former Haas Estate in Villanova, which is now a "natural" garden, open to the public. Transportation will be by carpool. We will meet in the upper parking lot (swim club) at 9:45AM for the short ride to Villanova. Sign up in the lobby and please indicate if you are willing to drive.   


Main Line Health and Bryn Mawr Hospital Presentation

Hospital staff will present “Cardio Vascular Disease: What You Need to Know About Heart Disease and Stroke.”

Roadway Restrictions & Alerts

Line Painting

Our line painters have begun painting stop bars, crosswalks, and arrows, starting on Mall Blvd. Most of the work will be done at traffic signals, and the rest will be on some local roads. Gulph Mills Country Club

Please be aware that the Gulph Mills Country Club, located at 200 Swedeland Road, is hosting a private fireworks display for a wedding on June 30. The fire company will be on standby for safety, and the display will end by 9:15PM.


Schuylkill Expressway Safety and Traffic Improvements

This project is the first phase of a long-range, multi-modal transportation plan designed to enhance travel along Interstate 76. PennDOT will install Variable Speed Limit and Queue Warning systems along Interstate 76 from U.S. 1 to just west of U.S. 202 in Philadelphia, Lower Merion and Upper Merion townships and West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in the summer of 2019. Learn more.


First Avenue Safety Improvements

The First Avenue Road Diet is a safety improvement project for motorists and pedestrians. The project will reduce the 4-lane road to 3 lanes that includes a lane of traffic in each direction, a dedicated center turn lane, and bicycle lanes or a wider shoulder. The project is expected to begin in June. Learn more.


US 422 E. Ramp to Route 23 Temporarily Closed

The ramp from EB US 422 to Route 23 (Valley Forge Rd) is scheduled to be closed through late summer for construction on a new fly-over ramp. Learn more.
