The cooler weather has us thinking about spending a little more time inside and that makes us think of making our indoor spaces a little cozier!  What better way to do that than to add some houseplants!  And to make it even better, they are 50% off now!
Annuals, succulents, pottery, statuary and fairy garden products are all at least 50% off too!

Even though it's technically fall, it's time to start thinking spring! Planting daffodil bulbs in the ground NOW will bring you beautiful blooms in the spring!  We have lots of varieties and mixes and plenty of specimens that you could enter in the Nantucket Garden Club Daffodil Show in the spring!  We've been working in the garden, putting it to bed, these last several days (before the rain) and finding new spots to plant these bright, sunshiny flowers!
Not sure how to go about planting bulbs?

It's time again for the
Nantucket Chamber of Commerce Red Ticket Event!
For every $25 you spend at a participating merchant,
you receive a red ticket. Collet them and keep track of the numbers, then on Christmas Eve, head to Main St. where you could win
$1000 or $5000 if you have the winning number!

Surviving the Holidays-
The Cheese Platter, Part One
by Leah Mojer

How do you turn this...
Into This????

Step 1- DONT PANIC!

Creating a Cheese Platter is a simple task, provided that you have a few tips and tricks up your sleeve.

How many guests?

For cheese as an hors d’ouerve, plan to serve 1 to 2 ounces of cheese per person.

How many different cheeses are enough?

No less than 3, No more than 5

Any more than five and the cheeses will get lost flavor-wise on people’s palates.

Choosing Your Cheeses:

Option 1: Go with Texture-

Soft- Brie

Semi-Soft-Blue, Washed Rind, Italian Toma

Hard-Alpine style, Italian Parmigiano, Sharp Cheddar, Aged Gouda

Option 2: Go with Color-

White- Triple Cream, Pecorino, Goat Cheese

Blue- Blue Cheese!

Yellow or Orange- Beemster, Ascutney Mountain, Cotswold

Option 3: Go with Milk Type-

Choose between Goat's, Cow's, Sheep's

or Buffalo milk for a guaranteed interesting and diverse cheese plate

Be sure to experiment with different accompaniments to the cheeses such a nuts, dried fruits, olives and preserves.

My 3 essentials are:

Red Grapes

Black Berries or Raspberries

Marcona Almonds

Serve cheese with an assortment of crackers. Everyone will find a favorite!

For a heartier presentation, serve along side assorted charcuterie such as prosciutto, pates, or chicken liver mousse.

What Wine to Pair
with those Cheeses?
One of my favorite white wines to drink in Fall is Chenin Blanc, and it just so happens that it is a perfect compliment to cheese.

Chenin Blanc can come in many different styles. From the ethereal, honeyed florals present in Anjou blanc and Vouvray, to the crisp, dry, apple-y flavors and aromas from the northern Loire Valley. South African Chenin is certainly popular, but has long been accused of over producing chenin wines that are sweet, insipid and cheap. Thankfully that is starting to change.

Today, South African Chenin Blanc is having a moment of reinvention and reintroduction to the world, proving itself a noble variety capable of producing world-class wines.

Which brings me to my wine pick for today. The Raats Original Chenin Blanc 2016 (14.99) is a classic example of a Chenin Blanc made from older vines, lower yields and grown in very specific soil types. The Raats Family have won every award in the book but still continue to grow wines with integrity and low intervention.  Fresh red apple & quince jelly aromas  lead into notes of fresh jicama and a hint of star fruit. Mouth watering salinity with a crisp, dry finish. Long story short, Perfect with Cheese! pssst.. it's also great with fish, sushi and thai food..
