At the Art Therapy Studio we are excited to be providing services in new areas in 2018. These new programs strengthen our mission to enhance the quality of life for those with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges through the therapeutic use of art. They will take our art therapy services into the community and offer more people the opportunity to use art for self-awareness, self-empowerment, and self-expression.

New areas of service in 2018 include:
  • YWCA of Greater Cleveland
  • LGBT Center
  • Recovery Resources

Through these partnerships we will provide art therapy to women and children, victims of crime, individuals living with mental health concerns and in active treatment for addiction, individuals who were formerly homeless, and the LGBT community. Funding for the YWCA and LGBT Center partnerships comes from Metro Health and the Victims of Crime Acts grant (VOCA). The Recovery Resources partnership is made possible by grant funding secured by Recovery Resources.

We are proud to partner with agencies who provide needed services to our community, and we strive to provide high quality art therapy interventions through these valued partners.  We are excited to help participants to address problems and concerns through the creative use of art media, and we look forward to reaching other potential partners as the year proceeds.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Kim Gazella Celebrates 20 Year Anniversary

Art Therapist Kim Gazella MA, ATR-BC

Congratulations to Kim Gazella for celebrating her 20 year work anniversary with the Art Therapy Studio! Kim was hired by Mickie McGraw in September of 1997 and she has continuously provided art therapy at Metro Health for the last 20 years. Currently she works with clients at Metro Health, Youth Challenge, and United Cerebral Palsy of Westlake.

Kim enjoys her work as an art therapist for many reasons. One of her favorite experiences is the look of surprise on her clients' faces when they accomplish something that they didn't think was possible. She also enjoys brainstorming with her clients in order to help them discover what inspires them to create art.

We are grateful that Kim has spent the last two decades with ATS, helping countless clients as they experience the benefits of art therapy and discover the artist within themselves. Congratulations, Kim!

The winter 2018 Fairhill Studio art show, Added Dimensions, is on display now through March 31, 2018.

Added Dimensions features a variety of mixed media pieces created by participants in our Discover the Artist Within You program (DTA). This show is especially unique because it was curated and hung by DTA participants in our Freestyle Fridays art therapy group. The group has managed every step of the process from creating the art to selecting pieces to choosing how the art is displayed.

The show can be viewed during Fairhill Partners building hours, Monday through Saturday from 8am - 5pm. Learn more about the show on our website.

This winter visitors to the Cleveland Public Library can experience our latest art show, entitled Global Community: Making Connections Through Art. The show is on display now through March during Library hours.

Global Community: Making Connections Through Art features selections from the George Streeter Permanent Circulating Collection combined with pieces created by Discover the Artist Within You participants. Together the pieces represent art as a global entity that translates across language and culture, connecting those who experience it.
