NJMLS - Rebate checks in the amount of 35% of the listing fee per listing (excluding filed exclusives) will be mailed to each office shortly.  NJMLS is adding "informed consent to dual agency" to the forms to be selected when creating a new listing agreement.

RPAC - 7% sales tax on your commissions, this is an issue that has constantly been raised in New Jersey state legislature and with the governor's race in November there will be a strong need to close the budget gap and reduce state debt. While it is called a sales tax which is an everyday occurrence in our lives, it is really a direct increase of the state income tax paid by Realtors®.  This year more than ever your contributions to RPAC are imperative. As of today, less than one third of our members have made a contribution. If you intend to remain a Realtor®, you must contribute to RPAC now.

NJR - NJ Realtors® participated as amicus curiae in the most recent Supreme Court case concerning the attorney review clause.  Basics of the case: purchaser submits an offer, offer is accepted, during the attorney review a higher offer is submitted. Seller terminates the first contract by sending an email and a fax to the brokers. Two days after returning review clause has concluded, the first buyer claims that proper notice of disapproval was never given and his original contract is still in force. The clause only allows three forms of notification: certified mail, personal delivery, or telegram. The appellate court said that the email notice met the intention of the attorney review clause. Both NJ Realtors® and the New Jersey Bar Association have taken the position that the clause needs to be updated to reflect the changes in technology and that notice by email and fax are proper notice. Expect a decision in several months.

NAR - The National Association of Realtors® has endorsed Dr. Ben Carson as the nominee for the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  
  • Mortgage Interest Deduction (MID) - NAR is actively engaged in ensuring that current and future homeowners will be able to take advantage of this important benefit. There is a strong possibility that tax simplification may significantly reduce the MID benefit for homeownership.
  • FHA Fee - On January 20, HUD announced it has suspended FHA's MIP reduction. NAR President, William E. Brown, expressed disappointment with the decision. "According to our estimates, roughly 750,000 to 850,000 homebuyers will face higher costs and 30,000 to 40,000 new homebuyers will be left on the sidelines in 2017 without the cut," he said. "We're disappointed in the decision but will continue making the case to reinstate the cut in the months ahead."

We received word that food pantry inventory in our area is extremely low and unable to keep up with the demand of those in need. The Community Service Committee of RealSource is leading a food drive to benefit local food pantries.

Each year the Community Service Committee of RealSource in conjunction with the NJMLS contributes thousands of dollars and items to local charities.

This past year, we were able to donate over $70,000 to organizations in our area. Each week we will be highlighting one of the groups that have benefited from the generosity of the members of RealSource.
