Worship 8:30am & 10:45am
Education 9:30am
Second Sunday after Pentecost

Scripture:  1 Samuel 3:1-10

As long as you live…
Complete that sentence for yourself. “As long as I live,
I will _______________.”

What will you work for, and watch for? What do you hope? Who will you love, and how will you leave your mark?

These are questions we’re going to explore in our summer worship series, As Long As We Live: What Matters, What Doesn’t, and What We Leave Behind. Maybe it’s a stretch to say that we’re going to tackle the whole ‘meaning of life’ thing in the course of a summer… but really, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

After all, summer is a great time to take a breather, spend quality time with the people you love, and hopefully take stock. Too often, we just sort of float along, swept up in routine. Or else we rush from one urgency to the next, without a whole lot of intention. That’s why we’re going to carve out some time and space to get out of the minutiae and think about big picture things. Like who want to be; how we spend our time and money; maybe even what we want people to say about us after we’re gone. All of these ‘big’ questions can really be captured in a single word: legacy.

If that sounds like a heavy topic for the season of ice cream and swim parties, just remember this: ‘legacy’ is not necessarily about death. It has more to do with living well, loving with intention, and moving through our days with a sense of purpose and connection.

As always, our summer worship will be filled with uplifting music, meaningful stories, moments of levity…and of course, all the joy that our children and youth bring in the wake of VBS, church camp and mission trips. I know that many of us travel this time of year; and even when we are in town, the allure of nice weather and lazy days makes it easy to skip church. But I challenge you—when you are in town—to make worship a priority. Rather than taking a summer sabbath from church, make church your summer sabbath. I promise you will be encouraged and renewed; and besides, we get a lot of first-time visitors in the summer. We need your help to welcome them and make them feel at home.

Live well. Love hard. Show up. And repeat. That’s my summer agenda. How’s yours shaping up?

Peace,
Erin

U.S. refugee resettlements so far this fiscal year are VERY LOW.  Sharon Stanley-Rea from the Disciples Home Ministry shared in a recent newsletter:  “As we approach the "half year" for refugee resettlement in this fiscal year on March 31st...the U.S. has resettled less than 10,000 refugees (not even 20%) of our national 45,000 admissions goal for fiscal year 2018!  Already, this 45,000 annual goal is the LOWEST in our nation's resettlement history, at a time when there are over 22 million refugees worldwide.”
