The Family Focus

The Monthly Employee Newsletter of the Jewish Home Family

President/CEO's Corner

Dear fellow employees,

There is a lot going on at the Jewish Home Family and we’re excited to share this issue of “Family Focus” with you. We’re going to put this newsletter on a much more regular schedule and welcome your ideas and comments to help us ensure that this publication meets your needs!

We are excited about our upcoming Second Century project and really looking forward to getting construction underway.  We’re still hoping for a Fall 2018 groundbreaking. The first part of the project will include the construction of a new inpatient building for short term rehab patients, with 60 rooms divided into four units of 15 each.  At the same time, we’ll be building the new Center for Rehabilitation Excellence which will be out state-of-the-art facility for both inpatients and outpatients.

We’re in the process of raising money for this big project and our fundraising goal is $30 million so we have been focusing a lot of energy on that effort. To date, we have raised just about $15 million and are feeling very positive about getting to our goal. We are very proud that 100% of our management team has made commitments to this campaign and we’ll be starting an employee fund drive soon. Want to help? We’d be happy to have you! Just let Melanie Cohen know and she will include you on the team.

Other big news includes an expanded Wellness program for our staff this year. As you may remember, last year we all had the opportunity to save some money on our health insurance premiums.  (Folks not on our plan could also participate and received a gift card)  We asked people to have a physical and send completed forms into our Wellness provider, WellWorks.  A lot of people did just that and are getting a discount on their health insurance premiums this year!

Well, we are going to kick this up another notch.  This year we will ask folks to do the same thing and get a physical and there will also be another health assessment form that goes along with it. That form asks a lot of questions about your personal health habits and will also be sent to WellWorks. You will then get a fully personalized health review, based on both your medical form and your self-assessment. This review will help show you ways in which you can get healthier.  We’re also going to roll out some health education programs and even a walking competition so stay tuned for details!  Want to help plan our health promotion efforts for yourself and your colleagues?  We would love to have you, just let Shari Buchwald know and she will add your name to the list.

You may have seen stickers on both campuses that identify us as an LGBTQ safe zone.  This is a community-wide effort we are taking part in and we’ll be starting some education and discussion for staff.  It’s another place you can get involved and, if you are interested, Ezra HaLevi is the person to contact.

Lots going on and many ways for you to be a part of it!  Hope you will step up to help and hope you will share your ideas with us!

All the best,

Carol Silver Elliott
