Communion Service at The Lutheran Center

January 30

There will be a service of Holy Communion this Thursday at the Lutheran Center at 11:30 a.m. This will be a brief service (30 minutes), and a chance to worship together with anyone who would welcome this opportunity outside of Sunday morning.

“Journeys Through Grief” Series

February 27 – April 2

Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville. Thursday evenings 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. LCS offers "Journeys Through Grief" counseling in small groups where for six 1½ hour sessions, you will learn about the stages of grief and explore your feelings about the loss you have experienced. Our goal is not to make grief disappear, but to equip the group's participants with the tools needed for lifelong healing and understanding. Under the guidance of a professional Christian counselor or trained facilitator, you will learn how you can live with the grief associated with loss. NEPA WELCA Spring Justice Retreat

March 28

8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. St. Paul Lutheran Church , 8227 Hamilton Boulevard Breinigsville, PA 18087. Theme: “Diversity – Reaching Across Barriers to Live as God’s People.” The day will focus on our call to action through advocacy and how advocacy is expressed in our daily lives. Keynote Speaker: Rev. Jeffrey J. Butz, Pastor at Zion’s Union Church Maxatawny and adjunct professor of World Religions at Penn State University, Allentown and Reading campuses. Afternoon Session Leader: Rev. Kristen Glass-Perez Muhlenberg College Chaplain.

January 30, 2020. Deadline for 2019 Mission Support Contributions. The deadline for 2019 Mission Support contributions is January 30. Checks must be in the office (not postmarked) by that date. Also, it is important that the Remittance Form is marked correctly to indicate whether a contribution is intended for the year 2019 or 2020. After the January 30 cutoff date, all receipts will be credited as 2020 contributions.


February 1, 8 & 15. Electing Our Next Bishop. You are invited to attend one of the following meetings, all of which are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

February 1: Bern Lutheran Church, 820 W. Leesport Rd., Leesport (north of Reading on Route 183).

February 8: Christ Lutheran Church, 467 Main St., Conyngham.

February 15 : Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville.

Participants will discuss synod mission priorities and the skills/spiritual gifts needed in the next synod shop.

Information gathered at the three meetings will be collated and reported back at three meetings to be held in May (dates to be announced). Rostered ministers and members of synod congregations are encouraged to attend.

“Presiding Bishop Eaton issues letter on the United Methodist Church.” On Jan. 9, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton issued a pastoral letter on the news surrounding the United Methodist Church (UMC), one of the ELCA’s full-communion partners. “Last week, in a flurry of misleading headlines, many of us read that the United Methodist Church had split. This is not, in fact, what happened.” Eaton goes on to explain that a proposed agreement received unanimous support and that, if adopted, the “Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation” would result in a separation of factions inside the UMC.

William "Chip" Gruen, PhD, IJCU Director; Chair, Religion Studies: “Ways of Understanding Religion(s).” Religious diversity is all around us. When we encounter it, how do we understand it? In this session, Dr. Gruen will set the stage for this semester's First Friday series by introducing a religious studies perspective on encountering difference. Want more? Join us in the Seegers Union GQ Annex on the Tuesday after each First Friday session for a “Talkback Tuesday” facilitated discussion reflecting on that month's topic.
