Scam, or spoofed, emails
The office of the bishop has seen a recent uptick in reports of fake emails or "spoofed" emails in churchs and religious organizations recently. Including recent reports of someone spoofing Bishop Burk's email address. Read the article linked below to learn how to recognize these kinds of scams and how to protect yourself and your congregation. 2019 Tri-Synodical Fall Conference
The Tri-Synodical Fall Conference will be held in West Des Moines, September 22-24, 2019. Deacons Jeremy Myers from Augsburg University and Chelle Huth from United Seminary will serve as keynote speakers under the theme Faith Formation as Shared Mission. Registration closes on September 18.

Prison congregations celebrates two years of ministry
FreeIndeed, the synod’s prison congregation in the Anamosa State Prison, hit the two-year mark this summer and is going strong. Pastor Jerry Collell, together with committed members inside the prison and volunteers outside, is building a vital ministry, one in which the liberating good news of Jesus Christ is experienced in a powerful way.

As the congregation begins its third year, they hope to continue to established deep partnerships with more and more churches and individuals in the synod. Lutheran Disaster Response is communicating with the Florida-Bahamas Synod, the South Carolina Synod, the North Carolina Synod, Lutheran Services Carolinas, and other partners, who are assessing the immediate needs and initiating a response. While the extent of the damage is not yet known, we will accompany impacted communities from immediate relief through long-term recovery. This is our commitment as a church.
