Donate Materials for MLK Day of Service!

Boston Cares needs your help to support local immigrants and refugees through the creation of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learning tools for community organizations and schools throughout the city of Boston. Volunteers will create English journals, conversation games, and vocabulary and citizenship flashcards for organizations for immigrant and refugee families learning English and preparing for the citizenship exam. New this year, volunteers will also create magnetic lapdesks and phonetics kits for beginners who may not be literate in their native languages. Help us create these critical items by donating materials from our Amazon Wishlist!



Cook for the Critically Ill at Community Servings


Monday, January 7

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM


Each day Community Servings prepares and packages 1000 meals for men, women, and children who are struggling with acute life threatening illnesses. Volunteers will help the staff slice, chop, cook, assemble, and package meals for individuals and families battling HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, or other life-threatening illnesses.


Tech Goes Home Classes at Codman Square


Monday, January 7

Join Boston Cares and Tech Goes Home for a fun, community-based course. The class is a great opportunity for volunteers looking to give back and share their knowledge! Volunteers will work one on one with students to help build basic technology skills.




Donation Sorting and Kitchen Help at Daily Table


Tuesday, January 8

5:30 PM - 8:00 PM


Daily Table receives donations of Surplus produce that must be sorted and organized for quality assurance. Volunteers sort through donations for use in the kitchen, commissary, for sale on the floor, and for composting. Volunteers may also help in the kitchen with food preparation, packaging, and labeling. Plan to be busy and on your feet!


Distribute Food at the Elizabeth Peabody Food Pantry


Wednesday, January 9

4:30 - 5:00 PM


Volunteers assist in facilitating the EPH Food Pantry's weekly distribution. The EPH Food Pantry provides emergency food services  to individuals who reside in Somerville. Utilizing a volunteer-to-client "shopping" system, the pantry allows clients to choose their own items from our available selection of fresh and shelf-stable foods.



Allies for Immigrants: ESOL Corps Training

Allies for Immigrants volunteers are a part of a network of volunteers who share a passion for enhancing English skills for adult learners.
