Welcome the Stranger Event
April 28 -- THIS SUNDAY!
2-5pm, Community Christian Church
Saint Andrew is co-sponsoring a gathering to boost awareness of the refugee and immigration crisis on April 28, 2-5pm at Community Christian Church (4601 Main St., KCMO). This is a come and go event. Also, our CSA family (SwaDit, MeeNge, Habay and Ramat) will have food available for purchase ($5 per plate, cash only). Second Sunday of Easter

Scripture: Psalm 30

"Just act as if Sunday never happened,” encouraged the instructor at my spinning class this past Monday. And I thought “Wait? What??!! Act as if Easter never happened??!!” Then I realized she was talking about nutrition and exercise. That even if we had gorged on Easter dinner and chocolate bunnies and delicious desserts and then laid around all Sunday afternoon in a food coma, we could reset our eating and exercise routine.

Even after I realized what she was talking about, her words stayed with me. Too often we In the church act as if Easter Sunday never happened. As if once Easter is over, we can pack away the Easter message along with the stuffed bunnies and Easter baskets and fake grass. The truth is liturgically we are in the season of Easter, the fifty days stretching from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. The early church regarded every Sunday as a mini-Easter. We worship on Sundays because Sunday was the “third day”—the day of Jesus’ resurrection.

This Sunday we’ll be exploring how we might take Easter out of the “one day a year” box and begin to claim the magnificent promises of the resurrection all year long.

Rev. René Jensen

Musicians this Sunday are: Kristy Blomquist, Darin Seidel & Cindy Egger-Farris

Last week's sermon is available HERE.
Joys & Concerns
Congratulations to: Skip & Linda Graham on the birth of their new grand-daughter, Lena Marie Whitney.

We ask God's blessing and comfort for those struggling with health issues and life's other difficulties. Please Pray for: Laura Lucier's dad who is fighting cancer and Lois Penn's brother, Bill, who is suffering with health issues. Pray for the family of Bruce Lucier's aunt Arlene, she passed away last week and the friends and family of Lois Penn's dear friend Doug, he passed away last week.

Thank You!
I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Saint Andrew work day. We had a good turnout and accomplished many important projects. Our crowd ranged in all ages. We had LC members, and clergy. We had members who have bee around for 25 plus years and folks who have only come to Saint Andrews a handful of times. It was awesome to see that kind of ownership and commitment of Saint Andrew! Hope our crowd can continue to grow during our Fall workday! - Brandon Adams, Building Superintendent

If you have a prayer request you can fill out a Prayer Request Form that goes to the clergy staff.

Our Relationship with Food: It's Complicated with Shana Arnhold
A discussion about the complex influences that shape our feelings toward food and our bodies. We will examine the conventional medical approach to “health” and its shortcomings, as well as a different approach that is gaining recognition and delivering lasting health benefits--the anti-diet movement.

Shana Arnhold is a Physician Assistant in gastroenterology who has been practicing in the KC area since 2007. In the quest to help people live healthier lives, she began a Health Improvement Program through the practice but soon discovered that she (and conventional medicine in general) didn’t have the tools needed to help facilitate positive long-term change. Unsatisfied with just allowing patients to struggle, she dove into the psychological aspects of healthy behaviors, sought the help of local professionals, and co-authored a book called FREE TO BE: The non-diet approach to peace with food and body, which aims to help people adjust their mindset to free themselves from the confines of dieting forever.
