Thanks to an outstanding effort by the California fairs network, two very important bills are now on the Governor’s desk awaiting action.
Assembly Bill 1499 (Gray) creates a new model for California fair funding – an estimated $8-12 million dollars in new annual funding for fairs.
Senate Bill 368 (McGuire) restores authority to the CDFA to manager future fair funds in partnership with fairs at the local level. Reduces the role of General Services and the Department of Finance.
...and an extra bonus bill
Senate Bill 5 (de Leon), a State Parks Bond Act, now includes $18 million for the fair network.
Your participation drove an outstanding legislative session for California fairs; now the final decision on all those bills rests with Governor Brown. He has until October 15 to either sign or veto these important measures. If he takes no action, they become law without his signature.
Congratulations to our California members, and if your fair has not yet advised the Governor to support your fair by signing all three, now would be a good time!
