Special Weather Alert

August 13, 2018

BEST PRACTICES FOR

UNPREDICTABLE WEATHER EVENTS

The rapidly developing storm we experienced today caused extensive damage throughout the township, both to public and private property. Upper Merion recorded over three inches of rain at the sewer plant during the two-hour storm. The township experienced flooding, erosion, water rescues, road shutdowns and power outages.

The situation changed rapidly, and many roads that looked safe quickly became unsafe in a matter of minutes. Keep the following safety tips in mind when faced with an unpredictable weather situation, as more rain is expected in the coming days:

  • Turn Around, Don't Drown - never attempt to drive around a barricade or blocked road for any reason, and never try to drive through a flooded roadway
  • Dial 9-1-1 in an emergency - while social media may be a great way to find out rapidly changing information, it is not monitored 24/7 and emergencies should always be reported to 9-1-1
  • Call PECO if your power goes out - do not call 9-1-1 if you lose power; report outages directly to PECO at 1-800-841-4141
  • Tune In - for the most up-to-date information, stay connected with us on social media and our township website; follow major news stations on social media or television, as they will be reporting from various locations throughout the county

Stay connected with ReadyMontco
