Bishop’s Conference 2018

November 6-8. Save the Date!

“Best Practices: Exposing the Idols” will be the theme for this year’s Bishop’s Conference, which will be held from November 6 through November 8 at The Shawnee Inn. The Rev. Dr. Melinda Quivik will help us to face idols both inside and outside of the church. The plenary sessions will address sacramental and theological idols, societal idols, and individual idols (both personal and professional). March 17. Farm Family Appreciation Celebration. Doors open at 6:15 PM, but no earlier. Dinner buffet – 7:00 to 8:00 PM (Tables will be held for families that work late.) Hoedown and Country music by “The Outlaws,” with line dance music between sets – 8:00 to 11:00 PM. Hamburg Field House, Hamburg, PA - Exit #30 off I-78. March 17. Class for Lay Persons. Dr. Michael Krentz leading a class entitled “The Theology of Luther’s Hymns and the Music of JS Bach.” The class will be offered on Saturday, March 17, from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Lutheran Center. Any member or friend of one of our congregations is welcome to attend. The cost is $10 and can be paid the morning of the event; but you must register by Wednesday, March 14 by calling Pastor Mary Gade at 610-266-5101.

April 22. Confirmation Day at the Lutheran Center. 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Cost: $3.00 per student. Faith knows no borders! Introduce your confirmands to all our Synod’s global companions. This will be an experiential afternoon full of international food, games, worship, and action rooms. To register, please email Seth Noggle at seth.noggle@gmail.com. Deadline: April 8.

April 24. Urban Ministry Gathering. The Urban Ministry Cohort will be gathering again for conversation and support on Tuesday, April 24, 10:00 a.m. to noon at Hope, Reading (601 N. Front Street - parking lot across the street from the church building).

May 8. Rostered Minister Anniversary Celebration. The Lutheran Center. Worship at 11:00 a.m. for all who are interested, with a luncheon following for the deans and honorees.

► Eric Hill, son of Pastor David and Susan Hill (retired; selhill@aol.com), is receiving chemo therapy treatments in addition to targeted therapy treatments.

Robert Johnson, father of Donna House (Friedens, Oley; dmhouse@dejazzd.com) is hospitalized due to COPD and recurring pneumonia.

Gary Langensiepen (retired; gary_langensiepen@yahoo.com) is recuperating after total left knee replacement surgery on February 28.

 Marion Latshaw, wife of Burl Latshaw (Grace, Reading; ryehillfarms@comcast.net) is recuperating at home following back surgery.

to make improvement with NeuroVision Therapy in Kingston following an auto accident on June 10.

St. Luke, Allentown seeks an organist/choir director. Position requires keyboard proficiency, ability to rehearse and conduct choirs, and an appreciation for a variety of musical styles. Organ experience preferred, but candidates will be considered who are proficient on piano and have the desire to train on our impressive three-manual pipe organ. Responsibilities include planning hymns, liturgy and anthems for 9:30 a.m. Sunday service. Adult choir rehearses weekly September - May.
