Prayers for the Entertainment Industry
Merry Christmas HPN!

Our HPN team wants to start this Call Sheet with a joyous THANK YOU for being a part of our praying team all through 2019. You are joining us in inviting God to do miracles in Hollywood and the global entertainment industry and it’s been a thrilling year. He is moving, people are changing, programming offers more spiritual content, and the church is more embracing of our industry. Praise God for that and thank YOU for being a part of it. This is our last Call Sheet until mid-January 2020, so please remember to continue to pray for the people in Hollywood throughout your Christmas and New Year celebrations. Many of them are lonely, discouraged and without hope. We want everyone here to experience the love of God this season and beyond!
Hollywood Walk of Fame prayer walk

We thank God for HPN member Monica, who came to L.A. and led a Hollywood Walk of Fame prayer walk down Hollywood Blvd. She was joined by Wiley and his praying team for a total of 17 people from 6 countries. They walked together down Hollywood Boulevard and prayed for the people in our city and our industry. It was a great Saturday morning in Hollywood!
Writers Guild and agencies

Continue to pray for the conflict between the Writers Guild and agencies, especially after their recent court hearings. The legal battle is complicated and drawn out, so please keep praying that everyone involved will make decisions with God's wisdom and discernment. Pray for the impact of this process and its outcome on our industry, and that God will bring unity out of this time of personal and professional division.
Changes for Hollywood assistants

In October, we asked for prayer in response to #PayUpHollywood and the issue of Hollywood assistants struggling with low wages and heavy workloads. Now, the talent agency Verve has responded to the movement by increasing assistant salaries and instituting other changes to improve working conditions, including shortening their 11-hour work days to 10 hours. Let's thank God for this update, but continue praying that other employers will improve the treatment of their staff and more healthy changes will be implemented.
Award show nominees

It's nomination season for all of the upcoming awards in early 2020. Producers, directors, writers and actors are all watching the films and TV shows from 2019 and submitting nominations for the PGA, WGA, and DGA awards, the Golden Globes, and the Oscars this coming January and February. Let's pray for the nominees and the people nominating because every decision impacts someone's career and life, whether for good or for bad.
Mena Massoud and career insecurity

After starring in Aladdin, which made $1 billion, Mena Massoud recently spoke about being unable to find work. This is just one example of the insecurity and unreliability of our industry that countless people experience in their careers at every level. Would you pray that Mena would rely on God's fulfillment and provision for him, and that the thousands of professionals here struggling to find work would experience the hope of Jesus—especially during Christmas!
Pray for mental health in celebrities

Recent suicides and poor mental health among young entertainers in South Korea highlight the negative impacts of being a celebrity and performer. Royce Lee, an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the University of Chicago, says "All cultures have a stigma against mental illness. It's not uniquely Korean. But when talking about celebrities, the intersection of culture and psychology becomes very important. The idea that one must please everybody is both a very Korean idea and a very common problem with fame. So it is a double whammy." Pray for influential performers in South Korea, Hollywood, and all over the world to know the importance of their mental health, and that God's healing presence and direction would guide them toward ways to get help and support. Pray also that audiences and fans would recognize this struggle and have an attitude of grace and love toward celebrities.
Pray for creative communities

"Want a career in the arts? Build a community." Community is vital when pursuing a creative career. And in Los Angeles, where loneliness is one of the biggest threats that an industry professional will encounter, community for believers and nonbelievers alike is key to survival and success. Please pray for creative professionals to find loving and supportive communities to encourage them in their lives and work. Pray also that Christians would be on the forefront of offering deep and meaningful relationships to everyone they encounter in their careers. God meant for us to be in community and Hollywood is recognizing that truth. We can't survive without having loving people around us and HPN is committed to building our Christian community in Hollywood!
Thank you so much for your prayers. We'd love to hear from you about your experience in praying for people in Hollywood, and we welcome anyone to join our giving team with an end-of-the-year donation. We look forward to bringing you more HPN updates in 2020. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you all!

With love,
Karen, Erin, Virginia, and Kim

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."
— Isaiah 9:6-7
"Religion is, in reality, living. Our religion is not what we profess, or what we say, or what we proclaim; our religion is what we do, what we desire, what we seek, what we dream about, what we fantasize, what we think—all of these things—twenty-four hours a day. One's religion, then, is one's life, not merely the ideal life but the life as it is actually lived."
