100% RENEWABLE ENERGY
  is happening in Westchester County!

Dear --FNAME--:

The Westchester CCA program is officially launched! Last week energy service contracts were signed with two energy supply companies, one for Con Ed customers and one for NYSEG customers.

The most exciting outcome is the very real possibility that several municipalities will choose the 100% Renewable energy product as their “default” power supply – i.e., every resident and small business in that town would automatically receive 100% renewable energy!

Below are key details on the winning bids, AND a request for your help in urging our elected leaders to select the 100% Renewable option before the March 18th deadline.

Here are the contract details:

  • Two suppliers:  ConEdison Solutions, a subsidiary of Con Edison, has been selected to provide electricity on behalf of customers located in the 17 participating municipalities that are currently serviced by Con Edison.  Constellation Energy Power Choice has been selected to provide electricity on behalf of customers in the 3 participating municipalities that are currently serviced by NYSEG.

  • Bids from both suppliers have a 100% Renewable energy option that is lower priced than the prior-year benchmark:  The bids from each of the suppliers include two “compliant” products that are lower priced than the benchmark of the past 12-month average 2015 rate:

1.  One is a product of 100% Renewable energy supply, greened through Green-e certificated Renewable Energy Credits.
2.  The other is a slightly lower priced "Brown" product that includes a standard mix of traditional energy resources, such as fossil fuel, nuclear, and some renewable generation.

3.  The price difference between these two new fixed rate options is VERY SMALL: $0.003/kw-hour for ConEdison Solutions (about $2 per month for an average customer) and $0.001/kw-hour for Constellation (about $1 per month for an average customer)

  • Participating municipal governments will now choose one of these two products to serve as the default option:  A participating town may choose either the 100% renewable product or the Brown product, because the rates for both products are less than the past 12-month average rate for 2015.

  • Savings with the 100% Renewable option: In municipalities currently served by Con Edison, the 100% Renewable Option will save the average family $22 per year, compared to the benchmark. (The Brown Option will save the average family $40 per year, compared to the benchmark.) In municipalities currently served by NYSEG, the 100% Renewable Option will save the average family $120 per year compared to the benchmark. (The Brown Option will save the average $125 per year, compared to the benchmark.)

Please join us in urging local leaders to select the 100% Renewable Option as the default power source for our communities BEFORE THE DEADLINE OF MARCH 18TH:

  • The 100% Renewable Option represents significant savings vs. the prior year benchmark.
  • The 100% Renewable Option allows our community to convert to 100% renewable energy sources, i.e.  solar, wind and hydro…NOW, as of May 1, 2016!

  • The Town of New Castle and the City of New Rochelle have already voted to make the 100% Renewable option the default product in their community. Leaders in several other municipalities have also indicated an interest in choosing the 100% Renewable option as the default product. Help make your town next!

Many thanks for your support in converting Westchester County to 100% renewable energy sources!
