Dear Valued Supporter,
When lockdowns in New Jersey started to happen, one of the first things my colleague, Zac Cole did was ensure his bicycle was in good working order. It’s his magic carpet away from the turbulent reality of the first half of the year 2020, away into the forested hills and valleys of Northern New Jersey, into the headwaters of the Musky and Raritan rivers. Admittedly, he says he does not venture nearly as far from home as he used to (#adventurelocal) but, because of this, he started to take a closer look at the roads and trails in his neighborhood. On a bike, you travel more slowly, you take in the sights, sounds (and sometimes smells) of forests and fields, you notice historic landmarks, and absorb the local culture of the Highlands.
This region is vibrant and alive, thanks to the dedication and help of supporters of and advocates for the NJ Highlands Coalition and its 100+ member organizations. These groups continue to work with us and fight for preservation of the wild and rural landscapes that are so spectacular to ride through or visit, ensuring these special places will always be there.

Help protect the New Jersey Highlands’ water supply, that more than 6.2 million New Jersey residents (70% of the State’s population, and a majority of its economy) depend on.
These last several months of the pandemic have taught us to quickly adapt and be nimble.
The Coalition recognized that to protect the health and safety of our educational events attendees we had to make necessary modifications. Now available to you on our new You Tube channel are all past and recent virtual educational webinars and videos (including the newest, Industrial Archeology of the New Jersey Highlands) which easily can be shared with friends, family and anyone who you think would be interested.
Our next event, Confessions of a Wildlife Photographer with expert photographer and naturalist Blaine Rothauser, will be on Zoom! Hear the stories behind some of his amazing photographs and learn his incredible secrets of wildlife photography! The webinar takes place on September 24th, 2020 at 7PM.
