Boneh Olam Fiesta 2018

Dear friends,

We are wrapping up summer with lots of energy at the Jewish Home Family! One of the places we’ve been working hard to grow is in the Gallen Day Center. Our wonderful team, under the talented direction of Charlene Vannucci, has really worked to add programs, develop specialized services like our Parkinson’s program and gain new participants. They have succeeded beautifully in all of those areas and we are so proud of their hard work! If you know anyone who could benefit from a day program that includes transportation, meals, medical supervision and engaging and stimulating programs, send them our way. We offer a free day program visit with no obligation.

This week’s Gallen Center highlights included a number of art and music programs. On Monday we made cherry blossom trees and on Thursday did a variety of arts focused on creative expression. We had music and dancing and a meeting of the Men’s Club this week. Participants enjoyed Wednesday’s lecture on posture and back health by Gallen nurse Carol Gehshan and that was followed in the afternoon by reflexology, on Thursday the Cooking Club enjoyed making chicken sandwiches and the week ended with Friday’s discussion of the upcoming Holidays with Rabbi Feld.

At Jewish Home Assisted Living, the week got off to a musical start with a Sunday afternoon concert by the Azikiwe Duo. Monday’s highlight was a presentation on elder healthcare fraud by a speaker from the New Jersey Medicaid Bureau which prompted a lot of questions and discussion. On Wednesday the book club discussed Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden and the last summer concert of the season, featuring a steel drum band, took place that evening. Friday’s highlight was a lecture on Fred Astaire by Marty Schneit.

Jewish Home at Rockleigh residents began the week with a Sunday afternoon concert by pianist Raina Wang, featuring a captivating performance of works of Bach, Mozart and Medtner and followed by questions from residents about being a professional musician. Our Baker’s Delight program combines the joys of baking and eating timeless favorites like sugar cookies while reminiscing about past baking experiences and discussing why baking is so entwined with such strong memories and emotions. Thursday saw an ice-cream social to top off a sweet week, with sundaes to order and lively conversation among residents and a live band.

The holidays are fast approaching. If you would like to join us for any or all services, we are happy to have you at either the Jewish Home at Rockleigh or Jewish Home Assisted Living. We truly come together as a family during the holidays and are happy to have others join us!

Wishing you a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
All the best,
