DeLand FL, July 19, 2019
– The Museum of Art – DeLand is featuring paintings, drawings, and prints by artist Richard Frank in an exhibition that opens June 28, 2019 titled The Richard Frank Estate: Paintings, Drawings and Prints. The show has been selected from the estate of Richard Frank consisting of 104 works of art which have been donated to the Museum of Art – DeLand from an anonymous collector.
Richard Frank (British/American 1947-2014) moved to the US from Great Britain at the age of thirteen where he studied architecture at the University of Florida and painting and drawing at Temple University in Philadelphia and John F. Kennedy University in San Francisco, earning a Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Frank held positions as a museum curator (Curator of Education at the Norton Museum of Art and the Boca Raton Museum of Art), and as a university instructor having taught art and humanities at Temple University and in the California, Georgia, and Florida university systems. He exhibited throughout the United States and Europe and his work is included in over 35 museum collections.
Museum of Art – DeLand CEO George Bolge comments, that “Frank’s watercolors of nature combine elements of traditional representation, layered with cryptographic images interconnecting personal and art historical references. The beauty of the natural world as it demonstrates the power of creation is a quiet theme in his art. He shows the natural world in exact precision, and with total realism, and occasional sense of whimsy; however, his landscapes represent a perfect beauty of a world which we rarely see in real life. His scenes of nature convey a sense of soul comfort and peacefulness, which we all search for.”
The Richard Frank Estate: Paintings, Watercolors and Prints opens on Friday, June 28, 2019 and will be on view through September 29, 2019 at the Museum of Art - DeLand, located at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. Gallery Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
