Summer Quest 2018!

Theme - Libraries Rock

June 18 - August 31

For students entering grades K-8

 

Motivate your child to read over the summer months and participate in enrichment activities that encourage their diverse passions and interests.  Join the Summer Reading Club to be eligible to earn medals, food coupons and/or prizes for time spent reading.  Don't miss the new and improved reward/prize system for Middle Schoolers this year too. 

 

In addition, please join us for many exciting classes, programs and events we have planned to rock your summer days and nights!  Check out our reading programs for high school students and adults too.  There is something for everyone at the library this summer so stop in and sign up today.


 Author Visit with Alex London

Meet an interesting, current author and hear about his work and what inspires him.  Alex London is the author of a number of great books, including Proxy and several of the 39 Clues books.  No registration required.

Library Closed

Let's Get Messy Art Workshop

Friday, July 6 · 11am-12pm

For students entering grades K-3

Learn new art techniques while having fun. Kids should bring a smock or wear messy clothes since we will be using paint, glue and other cool art supplies.  To be part of the random lottery for possible attendance, register here.

Cool off and enjoy learning more about important early literacy skills through stories, music and a lively puppet show. Sign up for each story time separately.  Registration required.

 

Middle School Monday Night

 Monday nights are all about fun this summer. Hang out with friends while helping the library!  Middle School students are invited to join us for a short book discussion, Library Jeopardy (a trivia game based on the books you read) and then a Junior Friends meeting.  The book discussion books are Mockingbird (by Kathryn Erskine) or The Watsons Go to Birmingham -1963 (by Christopher Paul Curtis).

 No registration required.

 

International Music Festival

Travel the Music World with us in one evening!  Bring the whole family and enjoy music from Brazil, Latin America, France, Spain, Italy, Middle East, Eastern Europe, India, and many other countries!  Registration required.

 

Upper Merion's Got Talent Auditions

Tuesday, July 10 · 6:30-7:30pm

For students entering grades K-8

Kids are invited to share their amazing talents by auditioning to be in our summer talent show, UM's Got Talent!  All talent is welcome - singing, playing an instrument, dance routines, juggling or whatever skills you have to show off to the world.   Rehearsals will be on Wednesday, August 1st and Tuesday August 7th with the performance on Wednesday, August 8th.  If you cannot make this audition date, please contact bginther@mclinc.org to schedule an alternate audition time.  To  sign up for an audition spot, register here.

 

Read to the Dog

Love dogs?  Love reading?  Sign up in the library for a 10 minute slot this summer to read to our very friendly reading dog, Star.  Register in the library 

 

Makey Makey Music Workshop

For students entering grades 3-8

Little Theater

 

Learn how to use technology to make musical instruments at this fun, hands-on workshop.  The 6:30pm session is for students entering grades 3 and 4.   The 7:30pm session is for students entering grades 5-8.  To be part of the random lottery for possible attendance, register here.

 

 

Literary Lunch

Bring a bagged lunch and come to the library to discuss some great books, participate in fun activities based on the book and play a trivia game to test your memory.  Our featured book for this lunch is The War I Finally Won (by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley).  Pick it up in advance at the library.

Early Ears Music and Movement Class

Friday, July 13 · 10:00 or 11:15am

For kids ages 3-6

This exciting program combines music and movement to help young children extend their inherent musical aptitude.   Children will learn concepts like rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics through creative play.  Choose the session time that best fits your schedule.
